I've Got IT!!!!! Listen Up!
Ok, bear with me for a sec, this just popped into my head. Data Crystal came up with an idea involving the gaming mags, getting them to write an article on B5 later on, after everyone had forgotten. Well, how about this, everyone here pitches in and buys some ad space in like five or 10 mags (PC Gamer/UK, CGW, Computer Games, and even the console mags). We make a bold statement, something to the effect of:
'We, the gamers, want to express to the gaming publishers and developers our desire for B5:ITF to be finished.'
We could put some big names signed at the bottom (CEO's, developers, all the board memebers), or a list in the background of all the people who signed the petition, or some statistics, like from Shadow Boxer's survey. We could have a link to go to Firstones.com. We could make that final push, not an 'oh well, we tried, it failed, move on', but a 'do or die'. I would do it myself, believe you me, but I don't have that kind of money. Mags will run any kind of ad with the right money. We could do this! We could get the word out there finally. Every gamer could see, every gaming publisher and developer could understand the need. I think it's something that needs to be done, and quickly, before the interest fades...

"Now, we gave you a promise and we are bound by that promise and damn you for asking for it! And damn me for agreeing to it! And damn all of us to hell, because that's exactly where we're going! We talked about peace. You didn't want peace. We talked about cooperation. You didn't want cooperation. You want war! Is that it? You want a war? Well you've got a WAR!"

And what I meant in my thread was that the original ITF is dead, no way for it to come back. I was just hoping that later on some publisher might understand that there's still a good potential void to fill and a solid market for a B5 sim.

Life is full of surprises. The ones reserved for me usually come wearing brass knuckles.
I wouldn't push it - we've had our go, and they've thrown it back at us in face in of licencing difficulties. Let's come back later, when the legal situation is slightly more clearer than mud.
I'd do like I've been advocating for some time, and throw my weight behind the mods -they're the best hope you have of seeing a B5 flight sim in the near future, and I think they've been disdained by far too many, for far too long

Amongst a good number of others...
... stay down you, damnit!
[b]Let me ask you, do you think that Battlecruiser Millenium is better than ITF? Then why did BCME survive and ITF didn't? Persistence. Derek Smart may win awards for arrogance, but he is the most persistent person in this industry. When no one else would help him, he did it himself. It can be done, and it should be done. Too many times people have let games slip under, at the whim of an uninformed, moneygrabbing exec. The most they do is put up a petition. Sometimes that works (Jane's Attack Squadron comes to mind), most times it's just ignored by the higher ups. We have to make a point, we have to let them know that we haven't forgotten after all this time. They have to know that there is still a need, and maybe that they should reconsider. I think the time is now, not later...

This would be a good point if it were JMS pushing the development of the game. As it stands, you have a half-million or so people, fans and otherwise, wanting to build something that intelectually belongs to someone else, and further more is licensed by yet somebody else.
It reminds me of the issues going on with Battlestar Galactica in some ways. Maybe if you guys focused on JMS, we might see some B5 sim come up in the future, even if it isn't the B5:Itf that we know and love.
I second someone elses comments in this thread about the MODS being over looked. You guys are treating them like the Mimbari were treating the Rangers...

I'll just keep going on my path to obscene riches... build ITF and 'vanity publish' it
Give it away free to all and sundry who want it and WB etc can sue me as much as they like.
I don't much care if I go back to pauper afterwards..
I had all sorts of articles etc lined up to promote ITF, form my effort, but as Jack says, there are a million and one obstacles including me at times, ( in my effort ). My intensity and passion for things is very hard to manage for me. My sig makes that pretty clear...
Rigs, your optimisism does you credit.
If optimisim and sheer persistence alone made ITF then I'm sure that we'd be busy playing the fourth mission pack by now...
My thinking is we just have to wait for the planets to align, for the gears of the universe to turn enough to free the mangled remains of ITF. All our efforts so far to pull it free before its ready to come out, have resulted only in us pulling pieces of it off.
Come to the Firstones church and pray, keep the faith and when the time is right we'll be rewarded...
you get what you give, returned, threefold...
