Yeah I know what you mean, the ending of ME2 seemed to try to make up for it with epic music instead heh. On the other hand, improving on ME1's epic ending was always going to be hard to match

Well, its like every trilogy, the middle one is just transportation as a friend of mine says.
• C_MonC_Mon A Genuine Sucker
I actually liked the ending of ME2 more. Because they're making a trilogy I kind of expect, and want, the epic ending at the last one.

Even if I have a lot I'd like to change in the games, both ME1 and 2 have been awesome in my opinion.
• I don't know, I really liked the final mission of ME2. I thought it had a great epic feel to it, and finally seeing all your choices through the game come to fruition deciding who lives and who dies was really cool.

That said, playing Dragon Age now. Had the game the instant it came out but was so intimidated by the difficulty of the early sections of the game before I got the hang of it it took me a while to go back to it. Now I've been playing it almost non-stop all weekend.

Currently playing Supreme Commander: FA, and Day of Defeat: Source.

Have some friends trying to get me into Red Orchastra, but that game pisses me off.

I never heard of that game before. Red Orchestra seems to be colored entirely in a sepia tone.

Yet another WWII shooter... with some armored vehicle action on the Eastern front. I suppose the title is alluding to the Russian organs... unguided surface to surface missile launchers.

• A2597A2597 Fanboy
Yep, another WWII shooter, but the devs went so overboard on "realism" that they forgot "fun".

Sure, it calculates bullet drop, where the bullet hit you, all the physics and movements....but is it fun?
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
Geez, Louise, Red Orchestra is already a 4-year old release... and it was basically an online-only FPS game. No wonder no one's talking about it anymore. :D People have moved on since.

I'm all for accurate ballistics modeling, but nobody cares about realism if the game isn't fun to play.

Real war is not fun. Why would a perfectly-realistic war simulator be? It makes no sense. Maybe I need to be a masochist to understand it.

Wasn't Red Orchestra originally a mod for Half Life?

That's a problem I have with games too, when they try to be too realistic. For example, that's the problem I have with were the Grand Theft Auto series is headed. I think they made GTA4 too realistic and serious (not that I'm saying the game is actually realistic), and instead I find myself enjoying my millionth playthrough of GTA2 more instead. I really wish they'd go back to that carefree, crazy, sort of arcade feeling, where it was about killing tons of people, causing huge chain reaction explosions and idiotic missions and character names. And the radio stations! GTA2's radio stations were just comedic genius, and I actually enjoy the in-house music from the first games a lot more than hearing "real" music. It all just really went into selling the setting. It's also why I found that I enjoyed Saint's Row 2 more, it felt to me more like the other GTA's, back in the carefree, fun days. I'm planning on getting a copy of that, but now that I'm actually trying to find it, of course it's nowhere to be found...
One series that has a good mix of stuff that's realistic and stuff that's just ridiculous is the Metal Gear games though. That's how I feel realism in games should be more.

I like GTA4's realistic and serious style. Maybe it's just me, but I don't find that any amount of realism detracts from fun.
• A2597A2597 Fanboy
I loved San Andreas the most. Although I fail to see what in GTA4 was more realistic than San Andreas...a few little things, like taking longer to hijack a car and more fist fights...but that added something I think.

my main gripes with GTA4 was it was all city again, after San Andreas opened up the world, buying places, etc. Oh, and no garage....

Serious it may be, but realistic? Getting arrested just means losing your weapons and being released. If that's realistic, I pity America's justice system. :p

• DarthCaligulaDarthCaligula Elite Ranger
OK, yeah, maybe realistic was the wrong word, but I feel that the game punishes you for going crazy and going on a killing spree rather than just letting you do it.
For me, it's tough to decide between GTA2 and San Andreas for my favorite GTA.
• CurZCurZ Resident Hippy
Realistic relative to the previous installments, mostly with regards to the physics.
• DarthCaligulaDarthCaligula Elite Ranger
Now the physics, I love. I just love sending bodies flying and seeing what'll happen to them, it's even pretty funny to see what'll happen to you when you die.
Real war is not fun.
That is correct.
Why would a perfectly-realistic war simulator be? It makes no sense.
I don't recall seeing soldiers run around the battlefield with a mouse and keyboard or console controller. War simulators have very little in common with actual war. For one thing you can't die, and that in and of itself makes a big difference. And that's where I believe all the fun lies, you can let loose and get away with it.
Maybe I need to be a masochist to understand it.
No, just an open mind. Perceived realism is what it is all about in video games.

Playing X3: Terran Conflict again. Getting somewhere this time.
• DarthCaligulaDarthCaligula Elite Ranger
Well a couple weeks ago I bought Saints Row 2 since I had enjoyed it so much when I played it ealier. I turned my Goth Ho into Death from Sandman, and then today realized who I thought would be perfect and hilarious, Lyta Alexander! So I pulled out my old B5 Magazine issues and used pictures in there as reference, and made a pretty good Lyta, though it might need some work. And it is pretty funny watching her go around blowing people away.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
I need to pick up X3:TC. How is it compared to the base X3?
• ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
I've not been playing an a lot recently. Still dipping in and out of STO, but the lack of content is showing. To be expected tho in a new MMO.

I've also been playing Rainbow 6: Vegas, which is a complete departure from what I'd normally play, but it has been a great deal of fun! Just waiting on Vegas 2 to arrive in the post now, along with Ghostbusters for the PC as well :)
I need to pick up X3:TC. How is it compared to the base X3?
MUCH better.

The new GUI takes a moment to relocate some things, but it is improved once you get into it. Soooo many new ships and factions, much better mission system, and much more combat focused.

Whereas in X3:R you could make billions in trading quickly, in X3:TC combat will ultimately make you more money directly. Not to discount trading entirely, you can still play without firing a shot, but real big cash is made via combat.

You'll also need TC to play the Babylon 5 mod due out soon. Which is reason enough on it's own for the purchase. :)

Ive gotten every achievement already, cant wait for the next game. :p
• DarthCaligulaDarthCaligula Elite Ranger
Starting over on Final Fantasy Tactics from the beginning for another attempt at this game. I'm doing much better this time since I remember enough of how the game works and it didn't take too long for me to get back to the skill I was at before, and this time I'm actually managing to keep track of the story!

Also playing Mass Effect 2 again :)
