Bigger Avatars?
Lord Refa
Creepy, but in a good way
in Zocalo v2.0
Just a thought.. but couldn't we get slightly enhanced images there?
There was/is someone with a silly gif in their signature that took ages to load even with my 2 mb adsl, but i dont think that 80x80 avatars max would do that much damage?
I mean.. Can you see what my avatar is portraying? I had to cut it a bit so it would look close enough to original without being too tiny to gaze upon..
And no.. it's not a penis.

The thing that when you put an avatar, it says it has to be either 70x70 or 15kb, but when I've tried to upload one less than 15 kb but size was something like 70x74 it wouldnt allow.
I can see what yours is quite clearly. :) As I recall, larger avatars were tried in the past (100x100 I think it was) but made things too big. Perhaps when Sanfam gets back we can discuss adding an extra 10 pixels. I actually thought it was 80x80 already.

Was. It lasted a day before we removed it, and it only lasted that long because we tried to PM the person in question first but never got a response. The image was 700KB and incredibly distracting.

I think yours would need a bigger space.. because I know it's not a bunny, but to me it looks like a genetically altered green aardvark hamster. With homicidal tendencies...
:D
My friend runs a forum that's almost infamous with it's big avatars. :p Or somehow they tend to be quite big...
If you want some idea what oversized Avatars might look like, check this out.
It's finnish, so you might not understand much of it. Refa's of course welcome to join. :)
I'm kind of surprised it mattered that much. I use it on other forums where it hasn't been a problem as everyone got broadband long before I did.
There are ususally file size limitations too for them such as ~50k bytes max. This can make it difficult tocreate and use an anigif for it...
;)
Jake's Theory of Collective Forum Intelligence - The amount of actual wisdom and valuable information transferred on a web-base forum is inversely proportional to the type, amount and size of the graphics displayed as signatures and avatars by the forum members.
Automotive Corollary: Where as, when the forum in question is automotive in subject, this inverse proportionality grows exponentially.

Eh. I keep hearing stuff like this (one forum I go to is run by people who think an off topic forum would be dangerous). And yet, the best forum I've ever been to has almost no regulation.
I'm sure there are some ones out there, its just the forums I frequent (most car sites) tend to fall into a pattern that as the avatars and sigs get larger and more complex, the level of real information falls, or appears to anyway.
In the automotive forums, it seems to me, that people with large complex or showy sigs are really looking for approval from others, where as the real car nuts, who are into cars for there own gratification, don't need the adoration of others to be proud of what they've done.

Avatar sizes are now 80x80.
Oy, thats not good. Now I have to make an effort to resize mine.
