The corporate parent of the company I work for (Emerson Motor Co) just aquired a company that makes chip cooling systems.

The press release if anyone is interested:http://www.gotoemerson.com/jsp/news/drelease.jsp?ReleaseID=3020

I wonder if I can get employee pricing, I'm just dying to overclock my PII...

  • That is cool.

Overclocking is a little over glorified. If your lucky you might get a 10% increase, but then again you have allot of heat and unstable situations all the time.
  • SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
The key to overclocking is to hit that sweet spot, the peak where you get maximum power and no loss of stability. It's always possible, and some processors give you a good amount of room to play with on that front. As for heat, all you need is better cooling. The bigger issue is the long-term one of the increased voltage posing a risk to the processor's pathways. Damage won't be seen now, but give it a year or two and things may start going funky.
