190 more in the name of terrorism

im sure you guys already know about this, but I think we should all pause and reflect on those innocent people that died today in Madrid. This is their 9-11 and we should all stand with them, and remember that all of us must do what we can to fight against the darkness.

I don't know how any group could possibly justify attacks like this, least of all ETA who seem positively civilised compared with groups like al Qaeda.

I guess "civilized" means them only that they sign cease-fires which can then be broken.
• Terrorists are all the same no matter what "cause" they seeem to follow. If you go down that road, you expunge your humanity, and yesterday's events are a testament to that.

Absolutely. I don't believe that people who commit such acts have any place in this world, nor any right to be here.

I await with interest to see whom claims to be responsible for the bombs.

That's if the perpetrators have both balls.. and absolutely no brains, because killing 190, wounding three times that is just asking for a lynching... no courts, no officaldom... just a good ond fashioned vigilante style hang-em-high, lynching...

now where did I put my rope,latern and pitchfork....

~~~~
Hey now heres a thought.... put all those barbarous bullrings to good use...
place 20 odd terrorists, with bound wrists into bullring + bull = great spectacle
I think a good goring would be a great way to off nasty little cowards like those who detonated those bombs.
~~~~

and you guys wonder why I have such a problem with organised, cloistered and entrenched religion...

...I'll bet some zealot will be found responsible for this too...

I couldn't believe the scale of this attack. I had heard a news snippet earlier in the day but had now idea how big the attack was. Its bad really that one can become used to such reports, not that you mean anything horrible by it, its just that in Ireland and Spain, since we've had to deal with terrorism for so long, when a bomb goes off you immediately think 'oh dear, another bomb'. For a moment you think about those caught in the attack and carry on. But something like this hurts an entire nation. Its just disgusting. If it was ETA they will be hunted down like dogs! The outrage will destroy their cause. We had the same situation in Ireland in 1998. A break away faction of the IRA planted a bomb in the centre of Omagh town, killing 29 people. It was the worst attack ever on Irish soil. It sicken the whole country. 2 Spanish children were killed in the attack, were visiting the town at the time. So sad. I hope they get the bombers and throw away the key.

One of my friends is from Spain and she has relatives in Madrid. Luckly her uncle drove to the city that morning. He other wise would have been on one of the trains that blew up. He's a very lucky man.

I sincerly hope that it is ETA and not Bin Ladens lot! If it is then the UK is next for sure. Spain back the US and Britain during the whole spat with the UN over Iraq. By doing this they made themselves a target. Hope this isn't the case though.

Throw away the bombers, nevermind prison. I agree with SB...

I can now think of yet another great reason for getting long distance human space travel. We can get the people who did this, then land them on the sunward side of mercury along with lots of temp resitant cameras. Then, we can all watch them burn in hell.

Those f***ing cowards.... killing innocent people. Children too who have absolutely nothing to do with anything in this world related to this shit. Bring back the iron maidens.

This is a worse sign then people think. If the ETA did this, its not the old ETA which targeted police and politicians, people who they thought were directly their enemies and oppressors.

This kind of terror attack is a sign that something has recently radicly transformed the ETA, which is bad news for everybody.

Shit Happens

They had a point to make who ever did it. Attacking None Military or goverment targets is not the best way to do it.

On the news tonight they said that the Spanish Police have found an unexploded bomb on one of the tracks. They have also found a van with bomb making equipment and a tape with pieces of the Koran on it. This van was located at one of the stations where the trains departed. The bombs used explosive which ETA has never used before and the detonators were made with copper (i.e the ones from the van matched those found on the unexploded bomb on the track). ETA apparently have only ever used aluminium in the past. This doesn't look good at all!
• E.TE.T Quote-o-matic
I agree completely with shadow boxer.

My suggestion for treating these low lifes would to crash their fingers and toes one bone at a time with two kilogram "finetuning"hammer for start.
After that maybe throw them to pressure chamber and increase pressure slowly to over five bars and then decrease pressure rapidly back to normal.

The hit took place in a multinational region, so it makes al-Qa'ida even more probable suspect. ETA simply wouldn't want to decrease tourism in Spain with that big strike.

Actually there's hotter in Venus, about 500 celsius.
Also athmosphere pressure would be nice and comfortable one hundred bars.
And there's sulfuric acid in clouds.
(well, that doesn't rain to surface because drops vaporize before reaching surface)

Volcanic areas with volcanoes spewing sulfuric compunds in Io are also pretty nice. (temperature should be also close to 1000 celsius in some of them)
• BekennBekenn Sinclair's Duck
I only just now found out about this.

I can only hope that any sympathy these groups might have had evaporated when they went after civilians.

only problem with being a terrorist is you need sypathisers, you need somewhere to hide, somewhere to go whilst you make your bombs.

Every target they attack like this closes off another community, closes off another place to hide.

They will eventually run out of readily available innocents and then they may actually have to attack hardened military targets...

...terrorism is cowardice.

When I caught the news I never thought it would be so many! Horrific.

After this I think its more likely to be al-Qa'ida. Plus they must've known about ETA and knew that the Spanish would automatically blame them.
As for attacking UK thats been obvious to me ever since Sept 11th! Its only a matter of time........there's no such thing of ridding this world of terrorism. Knock down a thousand. More will follow that have been brought up that way :( And we all have more enemies than ever since the war started.
• Simmonds no it doesn't.

I don't care what your cause might be, or even how just or right, intentionaly targeting civilians is just plain wrong and it destroys any moral position you might have in a conflict.

If are being repressed and you think violence is nessesary to fight that repression, then be a man and pick up a weapon and take your fight to military. I would rather die fighting an enemy with honor, than living with the knowledge that I intentionaly killed innocent people to prove a point. The only point they prove is that they are cowards.

No, it depends on who's killed.

Anyway, ETA have completely denied responsibility for the Madrid bombings, which is not a good sign. If this is the work of al-Qa'ida then Britain is next. (All of the views on this prospect have gone from "probable" to "inevitable" after recent events, and I'm inclined to agree.)

On a somewhat *lighter* note, some of you may have caught the anti-terrorism protests in Madrid last night, the participants numbering over 2-MILLION strong. Beats the hell out of any anti-war protest I've ever seen...

at the risk of playing devils advocate, i think simmonds has a point: it is the victors who write the history books (tho now-a-days it seems like its Holywood that writes the history eg. U571).

now just to be clear, im not condoning the terrorist attacks, far from it. i condem them very strongly and would love to see the terrorists hung drawn and quartered.:mad:
