Geez, Jambo. Do something about that crazy monarch of yours.
• He deserves it, IMO.

Remember though, we won't have to call him 'Sir Bill Gates'...

She doesn't decide either!

I don't really think it means anything anymore. The title is handed out like candy now.

Whoa, whoa, wait just a damn minute. Are you saying that they hand out free candy in England? Well, then may God bless the Queen, and I could really go for a Kit-Kat about now. ;)

eh... we'll just have to make sure 'Liz uses a light sabre instead of the blunt ceremonial jobbie she uses...

the all she has to do is 'slip' or sneeze at the wrong moment and alot of our troubles will be over... :D

At least this decreases it's value.

Good point!

The title's more than a bit outdated and meaningless these days.

But, hey, if people can get it for writing or singing bad songs, then I see no reason Bill shouldn't get it for giving or pledging away upwards of forty billion dollars to charity. Whatever you think of how he got the money in the first place, that has to count for something, on top of the fact that he and Melinda are trying to get rid of their entire fortune in this way before they die.
• Just to clear things up, Knighthoods by the Queen are different when they are handed out to non-UK subjects, in the case of Gates; he doesn't change his title to "Sir Bill Gates", it just remains Bill Gates. (It's just honourary.)

Over here, you are honour bound to have "Sir" as your title, it's pretty much compulsory.

Regards,
Morden

That's not what he's getting it for though.
• BekennBekenn Sinclair's Duck
True, he's only getting this for the charity work that he's done inside the UK; most of the rest has been in Africa.
• CurZCurZ Resident Hippy
Not quite.

That article is a little weird, cause it says both. The article I first read about it (I think it's the one curz posted in irc) only mentioned the contributions to business stuff.
