Here we go again...
:p
It will never see snow - may never see a dirt road that requires a 4x4. I don't see a trailer hitch so it's not towing. It guzzles gas and pollutes (20 mpg at best - more like 15. You turn over in a panic swerve. If you hit me in my car you're more likely to kill me and cause unnecessary damage to my car because your bumpers are jacked up to high to be useful...
Sigh - You should have purchased a saab or volvo and learned something about taking care of cars yourself. At least a Subaru or VW.
Alas - SUV people need to make up for their physical/emotional deficiencies. Small sex organs perhaps? :p (Male or Female)
It's a 94? Reliable? Quick Hurry up and sell it!!! :p
(I loath SUV's... ...can you tell.) At least it's not an Exploder - Err... Explorer... :D ;)
A Jeep is not an SUV.
An SUV is not a Jeep.
If you persist in these accusations, I will have to hurt you :D
The mileage on those engines isn't absolutely horrible. some large-engine sedans get worse. And the rollover rate on the Grand Cheroke is rather low. But it is expensive to feed the 5.2 at times...
Now, I'm sad you didn't get the 4.0 engine. You missed out on the legendary reliability. Rumor of a few 4.0's with no oil changes and no maintainance whatsoever running for 100k miles have often met with proof through numerous few examples of just that on the road today (Oh, how people torture their cars...)
Personally, I'd have gone for a Cheroke with the 4.0. It handles better, costs less, and IMHO, looks better, but the Grand Cheroke is a fine vehicle.
[B]An SUV in Florida with bald tires? Hmmm...

see, the idea is that if I get in a wreak, I can walk away from it. :p
It get much better milage then my previous car (Well, parents) Stationwagon. I KNOW how to drive a top heavy vehicle, (Read: high top van) and the idea is I won't HAVE to swerve, its called maintaining a safe distance. Most car wreaks are caused by driver stupidity, there are the freak accidents, but nothing can stop those from happeneing, and thats why I have alot of metal around me. :) Also, the grand Cherokee has one thing I was looking for, a wide wheel base. this isn't a Explorer here. :)
I've read many reviews of this vehicle, and they are all good. (Sans one, but it was pretty obvious the owner REALLY abused his vehicle). Your is the first one, and it isn't looking at just the 1994 Loredo model.
Making up for something? LOL, I'm not lord farquad here, I'll bet I can bench more then you, I don't have any problems with my self image. (OK, the farmers tan is a bit annoying..)
Hey Sanfam, yea. to many people abuse their cars, I don't plan to though. :)
What does it do?
Bling Bling!
Note to bass junkies: More or louder does not = better!
Jake
(Yes, I actually prefer a tape deck, seeing as how I've yet to see an MP3 car stereo. I kinda like haveing 10+ hours of music with me at all times)
and warning to the base freaks here:
One of these days I am going to invent a portable EMP gun. If I hear you, watch all your speakers fry. :) muahahaha.
(Ohh yes..I hate those subwoofers...bloody annoying).
tinted windows WOULD be nice. :) but I'm happy with my current rims, and the tires are brand new as well, only like, 100 miles on them. The pic was taken though the window, so it lost some clarity...the other thing it needs is a car alarm. otherwise, I'm set.
Good fer yew! :p
Bout' time you got outta that station wagon :D
Hmm, a directed, narrow field EMP pulse...
[evil scientist mode off]

this is one of the reasons why America sucks... the Humvee syndrome.... a vehicular arms race mentality.... big cars to fend off other big cars...
all the while chewing through buckets of fuel/tyres/resources.
Why on earth does anyone bother with a 5+ litre car/vehicle when you can get a much lighter 2 litres or less machine that kicks its butt ?
Anyhoo, car praise aside, I don't think anybofdy in this world needs an SUV. hell, most don't even want them. They just think they do, and get one because they can. But I've rarely seen a legitimate reason to spend $40k on a 7-seater SUV. Why not get a Volvo V70 with the third row seat? Why not get a three row minivan, such as the Honda or Nissan offerings (Which are incredible)
Want a big car? Get a crown vic, deville, or a 70's cadillac. Of course, they all come with V8's.
Want the ability to go offroad? Get a no-frills Jeep Wrangler or Cherokee or Toyota FJ40.
Want a hip car? (As much as I hate to suggest it...) Rice out a civic.
Want an All Wheel Drive car? Get a Subaru wagon/sedan or a Forrester or a Malibu Maxx (when it comes out) or one of the many other All Wheel Drive cars.
Also, think of this in a crash: If you, riding in your tons of steel, hit someone else, riding in a metro, what of them? What of the person or people in that car, who were the victims of your choice in vehicle? The extra mass doesn't even mean you'll be safer. It's a shitload harder to control something that heavy remotely quickly. If you think you can, take it to an autocross circuit and learn the truth.
And for structural soundness alone, many sedans are far superior as safe means of transport. My volvo 850 was notorious for its ability to survive collisions with the passenger compartment intact. I can't exactly say the same for many SUVs on the market. Your steel may keep your inertia up, but the people inside will be made into pudding.
I'll look at it this way:
I want myself, and the passengers of my car safe, the other guy comes in second, no matter what. I will do everything in MY power to avoid a crash, but sometimes there is NOTHING I could do to avoid one. In that case, I want to know that the people in my car are OK, be they friends, or family.
Same reason as A#: me and my passengers first. That and I'd actually use it for what it is meant for: off roading and extreme weather driving (Snow in Donner Pass...I laugh at thee!)
Plus, when the next earthquake comes to the SF Bay Area, at least *I* won't be affected by a lack of usable roads ;)
Fuel-wise, I hear that the Army has asked Hummer to develop a Hybrid Humvee. Sign me up, mate!
Sadly, I can't afford one (yet).
-R.
PS: or maybe I can....

In NZ, most of the cars have 1.6L or 2L engines, and NZ is a very hilly country. Our cars are 1.3L and 1.6L respectively. Recently there has been a surge in SUVs among the rich idiots people, but even those have quite small engines really.
[B]sigh...

Sweat Mercifull Crap!!! Something both SB and I agree on!!! Is hell frozen!?!
America does not however suck - I was the first one to point out how STUPID SUVs are in this thread and i'm an american! (Awaits appology from SB ;) )
The "I can bench more than you" mentality is exactly what I hate about most SUV drivers (unless they are used for practical reasaons - see above - not urban driving) Stupid meatheads. Might as well go beat thier chests and swing throught trees.
Hey guess what I was a nationaly ranked endurance athelete - I can bench 45 pounds more times than you can. :p
Just to clear something up - until about a year ago you were more likely to die in a wreck IN an SUV than in a car - now it's equal. You are no more safe IN an SUV than in a car. The reason people buy SUV's is because they are CHEAP the safety designs are cheap too.
Alas - SUV people need to make up for their physical/emotional deficiencies
However - if making up for a deficiency isn't why you own and SUV and you also don't live in snow country, don't tow a boat, and don't go 4x4ing in Moab Utah. Then why own a polluting, gas guzzling, inefficient, SUV?
What do you gain from driving an SUV that you don't get in an Outback Sport? I can't think of anything.
Do you like the feeling of ridding high above all the people in cars? That's a poor reason to own an SUV in my book and goes back to the insecurity issue.
Do you like driving around knowing that if you cause a wreck you just might kill the newborn and her mother in the neon in front of you but you'll walk away fine. That's just maddness!
Do you like the fact that your bumpers are jacked up so high that it's sure to cause body damage to other cars on the road - increasing the average amount of the insurance claims per wreck jacking up insurance premiums higher for the rest of us?
I think I'm getting to personal and it might seem like I'm after only you - I loath SUV's in general - I'm not just singling you out in my ranting here. I'm just a Republican/libertarian SUV hater - go figure. You can own it - I don't want to regulate them (other than by increasing the gas tax) - but in turn I also get to say how stupid I think it is. :D
:)
