our medi is misleading at times.

Actually...I've never heard the "French Veto Everything".

Then again, it WAS finals not a week ago. :)

I paid really close attention to the news (online, not on TV) before and during Operation Iraqi Freedom. I can't recall ever hearing any complaints or portrayals of the French as veto-monkeys.

Yeah, I've never heard that either despite following the news pretty closely (although I don't watch Fox News, so there you go). Nothing beats the bad old days of the cold war when Russia and the US would veto just about anything they thought helped the other.

France seldome has to veto anything, the US and or Russia/USSR always did it for them :D ahhh gotta love the crazieness of the cold war

Since the USSR Fell Russia has only Vetoed 2 times, But the US Has vetoed 6 time.

I dont really see how the veto totals mean anything. What really matters is what countries do veto (or sometimes what they DONT veto, or threaten to veto)...

    I resemble that remark
of the French as veto-monkeys
ah-HMM, for those of us Simian-Americans, we consider the remark "veto-monkeys" to be slanderous. Perhaps "veto-weasels" is more appropriate, (especially considering the underfunded and politically impotent Mustela-American lobby)

As a ferrett owner I consider the term "veto-weasel" to be highly offensive. Perhaps "self intrest whore" is more appropriate.

What if we looked at Veto per person? Or veto per Real GDP? Or veto per square killometer? Yawn... :p
  • A2597A2597 Fanboy
there are times a veto IS a good thing, though only 2 (Or was it two things rolled into one?) thing that I'm VERY glad the US vetoed.

But heres the kicker...does it matter? They vetoed we vetoed etc. So long as the power ised used responcibly, I'm fine. I don't mind the French trying to veto something, seriously. People get so bent out of shape...

as a manwhore I am *VERY* offended... perhaps "Self-serving, singing, dancing, transvestite lumberjacks" would work better...

As a singing and dancing transvestite lumberjack, I find that very offending. Perhaps "Degenerated Evil Mutant Cockroaches" would be a better one.

If you would notice, at least one of those french vetos has followed the end of the cold war, Im thinking at least 2... so there are other things going on..

Sides the amount of actual substantive SC resolutions coming down the pike has dropped dramaticly. You dont often bring a resolution to the table if your sure it will get vetoed...
