Post your home town!

SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
While we're on the topic of distracting ourselves from other topics with the gratuitous posting of images of stuff we love so very much, why not just go a step further? Post pictures, maps, etc of your town that you think kick ass or are otherwise fun.

I've only got one ready at the moment. The near "Perpetual Sunset" seen in the summer and on warm winter days due to light from the city and other nearby towns reflecting off the moisture in the atmosphere...

Yes, I have noticed that we seem to be flirting more and more with the abyss that people call "real life"... Hmmm, what have we become....

On the topic at hand though, my town is a windy town in California. IT would not be very interesting to see.

To all American posters: I shall send you images of my home town through your television. Check your local CBS affliate between 10 and 11 PM on monday nights to see my home town of Miami. Check local listings to be sure, though. ;)

Oh, and these pictures will likely have heavy blue or yellow filters on them. Do not worry, in Miami, it does not normally look like everything is tinted the color of pee.

Except for the occasionall really yellow sunset, but those are pretty rare.

    I'll be going now.

Well, I lack a digital camera but a quick search on google images found me plenty of pics. So, let's begin.

First off, here's a map for those of you who don't actually know where NZ is.
Here's a map of the Auckland region. Auckland and Manakau cities are actually one city, but they have separate councils. Most cities in NZ work like this, don't know about the rest of the world.
Here are a couple of shots of Auckland's CBD, the first looking south from over the harbour and the second looking north.
Here we have the Harbour Bridge and a marina.
This is a yachting regatta (we get a lot of those) with Rangitoto, a dormant volcano, in the background. Rangitoto last erupted approximately 800 years ago (fun fact: we have 48 volcanos in Auckland, most of them within a few kilometres of the CBD).
This is North Head, another volcano and on the northern side of the entrance to the harbour. It's also filled with tunnels from WWII, when it was used as an army base and filled up with things like dissapearing cannons, normal cannons, etc.
Here we have Auckland at night.

Wow, looks a lot like where i used to live, in a fishing village on an island off the coast of maine, Really looks a lot alike, course that's not too suprising since when all the contenents formed Pangaea, I believe Maine and Norway were connected. heh.

Mundane, a really romantic place you're living at. Looks just beautiful.
  • My town is 13 square miles, and, aside from our couple thousand residents, has a pizza parlor, school, police station (2 police!), fire station, tiny library, town hall, gas station, and small store. And woods. lots of woods. My house is in the very center of town, across the street from from the school, library, and diagonal from the town hall. Basically, we're a tiny, backwater Massachusetts. Someone stop by Holland, MA sometime, and liven it up a bit, will ya?

http://spoo.rh.rit.edu/photo/home/ for a boring slide show, but here's the nifty descriptive list. :P

This photo is one of the harbor during a freak weather condition. It was just a beautiful day with this deep blue sky. It was around noon, and it made some things just look downright incredible.

Here's just a random, artsy photo of the side of the causeway. In the distance, there's the lighthouse, the body of which is sitting on an adjacent beach. Even further, Connecticut (That long, dark line).

A photo of my general area during last year's Leonid storm. I was lucky and got one in the frame, ironically enough, when not intending to.

For some reason, this just one of those images that I love. The road on the opposite side of this little pond is one of my favorite places to drive. Lots of curves, lots of ups and downs...

This is my elementary school: Lloyd Harbor Elementary. It is really, really small compared to almost anything else in the area. I believe it can, at the very most, hold 350 or 400 students (at absolute peak capacity). It was a great place to be educated.

Main Street. Rt. 25A. This street is the social center of my town. Take the third intersection and make a right, and you've got the best pizza place on the face of the planet. A little further down, an expensive movie theater. The fun thing about this streat is that on a friday night, you can just sit down and watch as Mercedes, Lexus, and BMW branded cars line the street.

    More to come...
