ok all you funny tougued persons..:D

I'm looking for a nice exotic name for a grav drive luxury vehicle, a 1930's style retro thing, a really posh two seater thing, sorta like a maybach, or bugatti royale

so whats finnish for 'strong wind', 'fierce gale', 'powerful tempest' that kind of thing.... ?

any other languages are of course welcome, I'm looking for the above kind of theme to the name... and something that rolls off the tougue well...

I corrupted some German and got = 'Machsturm' which kinda works....

can anyone help ??

    ひどいかぜ (hidoi kaze - terrible wind) or すごいかぜ　(sugoi kaze - awesome or terrible wind) or つよいかぜ (tsuyoi kaze - strong or powerful wind).

    None of which make very good car names. 'Course, I could have got them wrong. :)

    well you have the different kinds of winds and storms and other windlike things like:

    Tornado
    Passat -> well Volkswagen used this name already
    Fön -> hehe that's also the term for hair dryers
    Windhose -> attention it's female ;)
    Sturm
    Orkan

    translations:

    firce gale (storm):

    heftiger Sturm; wilder Sturm; grimmiger Sturm (is possible but not very common these days)

    powerful tempest:

    Orkan



    well the best example for german carnaming within the 20ies (today again used by within the Formular 1) are the legendary "silberpfeile" (silver arrows).
    in the 60'ies sportive cabriolets tend to have italian or mediterranean sounding names such as the modification of the Volkswagen Käfer cabriolet sportive variation of Karmann the Gia.
    (don't know if Gia has some meaning)

    in the old days there were a lot of funny names for cars such as the Maybach-Zeppelin (don't know if the naming may had a it's origins out of a co-operation as Zeppelin has been a constructor as well as Maybach) or the Opel Laubfrosch (treefrog - > originating from the green colour)

    maybe you should investigate about carnaming in the different countries.
    the swuisse constructor Borgward often used female names such as the popular "Isabella".

    hmm. biggles I'm not sure about the literal translation but I don't think Sugoi is used often as "terrible" in terms of context. Usually used more along the lines of "wow" in english... but of course.. that's just an inference from context. I don't have a japanese dictionary laying around here... that and I'm half a sleep so I'm probably just making an ass of myself.

    Hmm.. appears you were right biggles.. found a translation in line at [url]http://www.trussel.com/f_nih.htm..[/url] though contextually speaking I've never heard "sugoi" used in the "terrible" manner.. but then again the only real context I have to go on is subbed anime so that's not much.

    Don't know about Finnish, but in America it's usually translated as "Fart", "Air Biscut", etc.

    The meaning of it can be "terrible" according to the dictionary, but it's pretty much never used for that in every day Japanese. This is what I have inferred from subbed anime, and also what I have been told by the native Japanese people I have spoken to (there are quite a few that hang around the Japanese department at uni to help out people like me).

    still not sure...

    playing with 'Cloudster' = corruption of Speedster and Cloud car...

    its for a Sci-fi sculpture... as I sort of described, I'll keep you posted as I progress.

    I'm trying for a very cool super retro look, boat tailed speedster style 'hull' with closed spat type 'wheels' except they aint wheels they're some sort of gravitational drive pods, you'll see in the pics/sketches.

    tah... feel free to add... I'm looking for 'roaring twenties'/1930's inferences...
