I've been beaten to it! I guess I'm not the only one to notice the similarities to thirdspace. The gateway to another universe or dimension where incredibly ancient aliens even nastier than the shadows come out from and all that. Seems like there might be a link here.
Thats what i was thinking, Or this is some alien race that the Firstones drove beyond the rim millions of years ago, Nice of Lorien to mention that, wasn't it....

I bet the "hand" is third space aliens! Oh yeah i'm back!

Well, the only prolem with this theory is that the Vorlons were the ones who exiled the Thirdspace, while I have feeling that the underground city was not Vorlon. However, my first thought was, Hand=Thirdspace The coincidences are eiery, however it turns out. When will we know if we have a new series??

"Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future, or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain." G'Kar, Season 3

The idea that they could be the aliens from Thirdspace is a good one, but not likely judging by the fact that the ships were far different in design. I find it interesting that the Hand starship commander was shrouded in robes and appeared to be more humanoid then the Thirdspace aliens. Also those lobes (the hood draped over them) provide an interesting theory that they could be (though very improbable) Drakh (Unfortunately, that would contradict the origins of the Hand greatly).
As for the Liandra being haunted, by bet is that the ship was a test-bed for Vorlon technology (Hey the thing looks like a fattened up White Star with a green hull coating. Minbari ships aren't green, Vorlon ships are).
The Enfalli looks a lot like a fattened up Excaliber.
I did enjoy the movie, and would like a Rangers series, though I think it should deal more with what the series' original premise was supposed to be: dealing with the legacy of the Shadows.
Effects were great, but the White Star kicks the Liandra's butt.
I hope Rangers goes to series so we can get back Crusade. That way we'll have the B5 Action Pack!
Isnt the enfali (SP?) the Minbari name for the Black Star from In the Beginning??????

From the B5 encyclopedia
Enfili
Race on a world on the edge of Drazi space attacked by raiders, which turned out the be supported by the Drazi.

Did you post with the same username you have here? If so, I didn't see you.
Remember that the Spy said those were toys given to the loyal subjects. Those were not really "The Hand" themselves.
Also, they didn't bill the Liandra as the latest greatest things on the block, although in comparison to that butt ugly Romulan wannabe... well...

I don't like the Jumpgate sequence or Hyperspace at all. Why change it? I thought it was fine before. People who weren't interested in Babylon 5 before, see this, then turn around and start watching the original series are going to be damned confused. I know I would. And what's with the Romulan Cruiser/EA Omega baby? Seemed to be quite a change from the sleekness of a White Star. Speaking of which, where are they? And why weren't they escorting some 'important diplomats'? Why ONE twenty-year old ship?
On the other hand, I noticed the ITF music right away and was really surprised. That's a good thing. Maybe we can get more of that if there's a series. G'Kar is hilarious, especially in the cargo bay. ('Gotta go, kiss kiss') The effects, other than the gates and hyperspace, are great. No more 2D particle explosions for us, No Sir! I thought the weapons officer freak-out sequence was kinda corny, need a little more control...
I do hope it goes to series, we can work out the little quirks then...

We talked about peace. You didn't want peace. We talked about cooperation. You didn't want cooperation. You want war! Is that it? You want a war? Well you've got a WAR!"

Yes, they had. JMS had the basic outline for B5 (the story arc which made B5 great), outlined long before "The Gathering" was made. And he had 1000 years of history outlined in detail in both directions of the B5 timeline.
A rough start is very common with a new series. You've got a lot to deal with: new actors settling into their roles, a new and unfamiliar story.
Quite frankly, I'm surprised that a lot of B5 fans are jumping the gun about bashing the story. History is repeating itself for the 3rd time.

WTF is this rule about never retreating from a fight? No weapons, no fight, right? It is completely idiotic to force a Ranger to chase down the opposition if all the weapons are down. Much more sensible to get repaired, and THEN beat the shit out of the bad guys. Yeesh.
Did anyone else find the method of operationg the weapons extremely wasteful of the officer's energy? A long battle, weapons are fine, but the tac officer is unable to move due to advanced exhaustion? And the lag time in getting into that holosuite is definitely a serious issue.
Other than that, I thought it was quite cool. G'Kar had a larger presence than some believe he should have, but he is the only "name" amongst the cast.

With the exception of the "slightly over the top" Martial Arts business, I liked the crew they seem to click. (I do like the concept of the Zero-G turret, it actually makes sense to do).
I loved the meaning of "Turk".
Damn I thought the music sounded familar! **sniff**
One bothersome plot point, why would Gkar of all people NOT believe the story of an ancient race driven out of the galaxy given he was the only one in the galaxy concerned enough about ancient legends to risk [and lose] sending a battlecruiser to Zhadum?!
The thought of the day: The Ambassador very nicely dodged the question "Why would the Hand need you".
My personal suspicion is because while they may have "found a way back" perhaps they are not really here yet in force so like the Shadows they need time.
