My Theory

JamboJambo Scriptkiddie
George Lucas didn’t write the original star wars trilogy and the person that really did is dead now..

Come on, after seeing the abominations of films that are Episode 1 and 2 it's got to be true!

I got Episode 2 out on DVD to watch with some friends, and I was cringing all the way though... good god did it suck..

Anyway, that’s my theory.

Happy Christmas everyone!

    Silly me :P
  • Well I read somewhere that Lucas worked with someone else who was deeply involved in the first Star Wars. The article I read said that this guy acted as a counter blalance to Lucas, and together they came up with the majic of the original trilogy. After the second movie this guy left because of strong dissagreements with Lucas and Lucas became the sole Star Wars creator. Critics say that this is why the new movies are dull, simplistic, and full of excentricity. Lucas has good ideas, but without someone to keep him in line, he goes off into crappy movie land. I tried to watch Episode 2, but after 30 minutes I had to shut it off, it was just so bad. It should have been called "Attack of the robot actors", I've seen more convincing acting in porn.

The original trilogy isn't that great, you know. We all saw it first when we were young, so we didn't look for great writing or acting or directing or anything like that. Still, they are far better than the new ones.

What a lot of people don't realize is that our views are distorted by the lens of nostalgia.

If we were still kids now, Episodes 1 & 2 would be just as cool as the first trilogy.

Sorry if this makes anybody feel really old but the majority of the board wasn't alive when the original trilogy was released.

I think that's a pretty baseless claim. There are quite a few older members here.

I don't see how you can even group Ep 2 in with Ep 1. While Ep 2 was semi-ok, it was resoundingly good compared to Ep 1

Thank you! And I do agree that The original was better!

I think that to be a real Star Wars fan, you have to remember seeing it in the first theatrical release....

No, you young'uns are entitled to enjoy it just as much as us old farts.

I'm going to say this right now, though. I enjoyed both Eps 1 and 2. They have their problems, but I found them enjoyable for the most part.

And Jar-Jar Binks is not the worst thing to happen to Star Wars. For that you have to find the Star Wars Holiday Special. I think all true fans should see it at least once to know what really bad Star Wars can be.

    Exactly my point.

Once again, my point. The young ones amongst us watched it on TV or video as kids. Those who saw it at the cinema when it was first released were either young, or watching something that had never been done before and were amazed anyway.

I can't take any any Sci-Fi show that lends itself to a truly horrible Christmas specail seriously. I think every Star wars junkie should be tied down and forced to listen to the song: "What do you get a wookie if he's already got a comb?"

George Lucas had nothing to do with that Star Wars special.
  • mambo_mordenmambo_morden Earthforce Officer
Well, you've still gotta admit that it's a pretty bad special.
  • WHY_oldWHY_old Elite Ranger
But then again, without it we may never ahve had Boba Fett..

All of you are wrong. There is only one answer:

The trilogy was indeed written by Lucas, but he did not just "create" it.

One day, an historical document landed in his backyard. It contained the story of the triumph of good over evil, etc. But here's the problem: The information for the creation of the empire was not totally accurate, and was more a "word of mouth" thing, rather than the documented case of the new republic's formation, so Lucas improvised.

There. End of story. Goodbye! See-ya! Go. It's over.
