I think it's something similar like the "Grundwehrdienst" of the "Bundeswehr", what every male after school/professional education has to do (for women it is facultative). Here we don't have such a classification of the level of sanity. Every man has to serve for the same appointed time. I was in the army for 10 months, currently it's only 9 months; instead my father served for 18 months (in the NVA of the former DDR).

Danton: Thanks, it has been fun at times, although the stuff can get boring which it in fact does most of the time.
And there is a sort of "bond" between us 'army buddies', no doubt about that. We have our share of assholes too, but the crew works as one and that's a good motivator.
And the army = fanatic -thing was just that talking about 'army' might make people think that I'm talking about something like Salvation Army or so, as mentioned above, so I was just saying that I'm not THAT much a [i]religious[/i] fanatic to join that crew.
