It's all Battlefield 1942 for me from now on . Now somebody needs to make a B5 mod for THAT... that would be awesome.
The demo really didn't do it for me. Sure, it's pretty, but it feels like an extension of Quake. I found the gameplay to be WAY too fast. I don't mind fast-paced, but UT2k3 is just ridiculous.

I wasn't impressed with the demo, I think i'll wait for Doom3
There are some very impressive effects, mosly thanks to the Karma physics engine:
- There are no pre-scripted death animations. When a player dies, the Karma physics take over, and the body become a full Inverse Kinematics (IK) model, flopping around like a ragdoll.
- Smoke and steam can be affected by projectiles (you can see smoke being pushed out of the way when you fire a rocket through it).
- There's a test level that contains a vehicle that has accurate suspension and handling physics (much like the Warthog in HALO).
There are also some amazing per-pixel lighting effects, such as shafts of light shining through volumetric smoke, and light patterns that affect weapons and player models.
Overall, I love it....and it'll get even better if the MOD community can produce some quality stuff (like vehicles).
And yeah, the install is 3GB.

Thanks samuelk, didn't know some of that info (Ala the texture sizes...WOOOT)
as for Mods...I know thre is a growing effort in the Wheel of TIme community to port WoT to the UT2003 engine. Hoo Yea!

I prefer games that blend tactical strategy with shooting, as opposed to just shooting. It's going to be BF1942 for me.

If I can actually find UT 2003 on the shelves here in Indy, i'll pick up a copy..
five bots all around works quite well. not to fast of action, just plain old fun.
only part about it that I hate so far are the taunts (To gutteral, I liked the original taunts better).
Couln't find the game today, wally world said to check back friday, so that means I'll have it either thursday or next monday...

Sure, all those fancy effects and whatnot are nifty, but everything in the game is at such a hyperactive pace that you can't really notice it.
Just FYI, the game has a setting that lets you adjust the speed from 50% of normal all the way up to 200% of normal speed.
Not to mention that every single online server I've seen runs the game at the default speed.
(Bigger maps I guess...)
maybe the music is affecting you.

Guess old age is starting to creep in ...Fast paced twitch games just don't do it for me anymore.
BF1942 for me anyday... .

I only get 12 frames a second at 800x600... I need to upgrade. I wish I could afford better than my current P2 333
Ouch... That hurts.
Maybe when I get my credit card I will rack up some debt with upgrades. I read that a 2 ghz celeron is or was recently released. I don't mind losing that bit of performance from moving to celeron for the big price saving. Hell, I still use PC 100 ram , so how can I complain about a bit of FSB speed.

Bring on the FIR tho...
I really really really really want a Full Immersion Rig.
the launts crack me up in this game "OWI" and "heh, I can't feel my leg!" are great.
I've tried a few ways to die...my favorite so far was the redeemer.
although I wasn't the one that died. Shot a guy that was perhaps three-four pixels high with the redeemer, his ?leg? landed next to me. LOL
then there are the stair case deaths...

sounds... fun...
Karma adds a lot to the game.
(Although there is a software renderer in there as well, and I can't remember if it's Glide or OpenGL....)
Keyan: I have heard that from more people! *Sniff* I WANT THE FULL VERSION!
