Well, now I'm not sure. In some parts it looked like they were lifting off the wings, but in others it looked like they were the wings themselves seperating.
It only deploys the wings for one reason, and that reason is.... zzZZZZzzz

They definitely didn't rip off B5 with that ship design. In fact, the ship in that image wouldn't look anything like a Shadow ship if viewed from above. You're reading a bit too much into it.
Its just the angle, the wings are typically flat, but then those flaps extend from it.
they are FLAPS, not SPIKES, viewed head on, or top down, or from the side, nothing like a shadow. just that angle does bear some resemblance.

Well, now I'm not sure. In some parts it looked like they were lifting off the wings, but in others it looked like they were the wings themselves seperating.
