• I sent an e-mail about this to you Sanfam, but hadn't heard back so thought I should post it here.

Again, sorry to hear about the financial hard times, and I hope they clear up for you soon.

I have space and bandwidth available, more than you are using. If you are still looking for a solution, please e-mail me, if you have one, then stop reading here

Can't wait for the new DVD's...

I think all I missed was a load of spam.

If you want info on download scripts, go ask The Underdogs (you know the ones I mean). They have a very complex script that manages downloading. I don't know if it does mirroring, but it does a lot of other stuff like making sure each person only downloads one file at a time and things like that.

If you asked everyone to start using a download script that would pick a random mirror, I think bandwidth usage would decrease quite a bit. Surely there are a handful of people that would be willing to help host such popular files?
Yeah, but the problem with that is what if several mirrors are down? Most people would give up after one or two clicks and whine about "I can't download your stupid mod!". Its far more user friendly to have just a list of mirrors.

Then of course you've got folks that use download resumers.

Now what you could really do is have Johan host the mods entirely and just point to that server instead. He in turn, could have a list or mirrors to point to however many people decide to host the mod files.

If the mirrors are down for any significant period of time, you've picked the wrong people to mirror your files. For people with download resumers, they can select the file from each of the mirrors and download them in parallel to get higher speed with less bandwidth per server being used.

And of course, the mirroring system could check the status of each of the mirrors to make sure they're operational.

Regardless of who hosts the mirroring system and files, it's going to save bandwidth (and therefore money) that's needed to keep this site alive.

What you do is you have the random mirror script as well as a list and the statement saying the download will start after a few moments. Otherwise how do people with JS disabled DL?
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
not JS.

CGI. or PHP.

• I sent $50 via paypal to help. Sorry if you get two notices i used donationS in stead of donate@firstones.com to send the first one.

PHP is server rendered pages so Lynx should have no problem with it at all.
• PJHPJH The Lovely Thing
Yup that's right. PHP is a server side language, which means that everything it does, it does on the server. It doesn't matter what browser you're using, because all your browser gets from the server is HTML, whether it's PHP generated or not. But Javascript for example is a different matter, because it does its job on the client side (your browser), which means that your browser must support the language.
