Let's just keep in mind that while referral IDs are nice and all, the important thing is that the survey gets answered. We don't want to force a referral ID down anyone's throat.
okay... Striker informs me there are 327 scalps in the box. ( distribution wont be known till the data is munged ) but thats from two days ago. So at the current rate we are doing quite well.
Hartsblade/Bobo, good idea... mind you... lets say I'm one of bobos punters...
"Yeah sure man.. I'll fill it in and send it in from home... yeah no problems" **Bobo walks away to line up someone else, Punter puts form straight in the trash when he gets home**...
thats why I want Firstones with a real passion and interest to collect the data because they will actually collect it.
most punters will bear the usual apathy... and its like treacle... and very hard to get people to move when they are in it.
Give them out as you suggest with disgression Bobo.. I guess you'll know the ones you have to nail on the spot and those you can trust to get online and post it.
to save a step... when you have it done Hart.. just get in contact with Striker and get him to upload it. I know you'll do a good job so juts get it up, it doesnt have to go through me every time.

I think I'm getting too agressive. I've managed to piss off the folks at Wing Commander CIC. Can't wait to here what my friends think of all this.
Has anyone hit the XWA community yet? I know we've got Admirial Andy around here someplace, and who knows who else.
I know it sounds strange coming from me but please dont get overzealous. Don't pepper every BBS the world over a zillion times.
State your goals and leave quietly. They may simply get online and deliberately spike the data with what they think will do the most damage to the outcome.
Use the .pdf. Collect it yourself. Enter it yourself. Put your money where your mouth is.
Every scalp should be precious to you and you should treat everyone accordingly. They are doing thier small part to bring your dream alive. Remember too that it is not just your dream either.
Anyone can scatter posts far and wide across BBS's. It takes some real dedication to actually gather the data yourself. Don't expect everyone to fall over themselves to fill it in. Encourage them, and offer to make it as painless for them as possible. Watch how quickly speaking softly and being persistent nets you a big tally.
To get people's attention, here are some things that I'd suggest:
1 - If you have room, mention B5 games and the survey in the subject line... I tend to use a subject like this: "Babylon 5 PC Games...do you want them? (Request for Information)"
2 - Provide a short outline of the game in your post. Don't make it too long--just give a quick summary of what happened to the game -- this will help convey the dedication to B5 games in general.
3 - Point out that this survey was designed specifically for collecting demographic data, and that data will be directly used to help save the game and/or generate interest in B5 games. It's important to let people know that this isn't a run-of-the-mill survey like the ones you see on gaming websites. This one has a purpose.
4 - By all means, give out your referral ID, but let people know that it's not necessary to use it; the most important thing is to get responses.
5 - Let people know that there is no personal data collected in the survey -- they're more apt to check it out if they don't have to give an e-mail address or any other personal information
6 - Let people know that it's a short survey, and not one that will take them 20 minutes to complete.
7 - Post once, and only once. If no one sees the post on a particular forum, then it wasn't meant to be seen. If the topic is of interest to people, it will get responses without any extra help from you.
8 - Scan the forum/usenet group to make sure you're the first to post there. If the subject has already been brought up once, it's best to make sure that you don't repeat the post--people might think that the forums are being spammed.

Well, the CIC guys are very easily pissed off.. just have a little different opinion, and state it in any way you want (as polite as you want), and you'll get flamed and maybe even banned...
To be fair, my post was worded terribly. I've considerred going in and explaining myself, but after reading this thread I guess I'll just let the post disappear. Will be passing out written surveys as soon as my printer works
Hey is there any way for people to be able to check online how many surveys people have posted under their userid, ect. That would be cool, if it is possible.

folks... without pre-empting anything, there will be some additional support to come as far as stuffing the survey full of data... I cant say what and when but it will come online soon enough. Keep going... and Sams date of August for 20,000 hits is probably not going to be very accurate if all goes well...
