Coolest B5/Crusade/LotR effect ever!
David of Mac
Elite RangerCa
in Babylon 5
What, in your opinion, is the coolest single shot ever in the B5 universe. It has to be one uninterupted shot, so as soon as theres a camera change or a comercial break, that's it.
My vote:
Babylon 5: Sleeping in Light: The side shot of B5 exploding, when the front is all that's left and the explosion travels up the power core and seems to be sucked into the command sphere. Now, THAT's a money shot!
Crusade: The Needs of Earth: Right when the Excalibur jumps into hyperspace with the other ship following it. The Excalibur shoots into hyperspace, and it looks as if the point is forming in reverse, from the outer edges to the center. I know it's an optical illusion, but it's still a great shot.
Legends of the Rangers: Haven't seen it yet

Those battle scenes just kicked ass!
B5 Movies: Has to be in Thridspace, when the gate opens and the first fighters come through.
Crusade: Nothing particular stands out for me in this series, aside from whenever that primary weapon fires.
Rangers: Probably when the minions of "The Hand" return to check the debri and search for the Liandra.

Movies: In The Beginning, the Battle of the Line shots.
Crusade: Nothing comes to mind.

Babylon 5:, man, i'd have to think hard for that one, so many that I liked, too hard to remember
Crusade-Whenever the Excalibur fired its main gun..
Havn't seen LotR yet....

Crusade: A scene from "Warzone" that showed all the debree in orbit of Earth. You normally don't get to see the aftermath like that, so it was cool.
LOTR: Nothing really stands out but I'll say the Valen take off with the nials flying backward above it.

OH, and I thought of a B5 one as well now. The starfuries being blown up in The Battle of the Line in Sinclair's flash back in season 1
sharlins shoulder to shoulder...
going up against that standing in the cockpit of your Fury...as a human would be like...
" oh well "
unbuckle from the harness and try desperately to kiss you vacc suited butt goodbye.
and to quote from another nihilist..
" game over man "
1) Battle of the Line, where the entire Minbari fleet is simultaneously jumping out of Hyperspace.
2) The shot of the Cortez (explorer class ship) with the single Starfury flying under it, highlighting just how big that ship actually is. Unfortunately, that is the one CG shot that suffered from the cropping for widescreen, since you can barely see the 'Fury anymore.
Crusade and LOTR: Haven't seen enough to decide.
B5 Movies: I'd have to say the jump points in ACTA. Those were the best of all the three shown.

Everything important is in there. One shot. Slow pace. You really seem to *see* what Londo thinks and that he finally realizes that this will change so much for him personally and to the universe. Yet he seems not sure about whether he likes what happens. He seems to be hidden behind or covered by the weapons effects.
Everytime I see this it gives me shivers.

I also am quite fond of that scene Language of Hope described
In Crusade, I did love the Excalibur's weapon. It was a beautiful effect.
My favorite effect from crusade would be the Jump effect seen in "A Call To Arms", but that's not Crusade. It was exactly like what I'd imagine a jump point to be. Two-dimensional, yet almost unrealistically deep when looked at head-on.
When the Excalibur fires it's main weapons at an asteroid which shatteres into a million pieces that fly toward the shadow hyprid ship (which was on the other side of the asteroid) and rip and tear it's outer shell off!!
Also, when the shadow hyprid ship fires it's main weapon, which then hits one of the hundred deflecters that the Excalibur has layed out, destroying it, but spliting the energy beam into two, which delfect to another two delfecters, and so on, and so on, as the engergy beam breaks down, through the spectrum, and finally one tiny beam hits the excalibur
Though I personlly think that the first shot was better!

Another scene, however I cannot remember which episode, was the one where an EA Destroyer is being chased by the Clarkstown (I think). The starfuries facing backwards and firing with the EA Destroyer in full view....that was a great shot. The detail and the size of the destroyer (compared to the starfury) was amazing.
EDIT: I just remembered another one. =) The EAS Agamemnon blasting through the defense grid satellite. Boy...that was a colorful scene. :P Battle of the Line too...good one!!
Ack...too many to choose from! lol

The shutdown of Babylon 5 was cool, too. One man standing alone in a place where once thousands and thousands of aliens and humans stood and lived.
IMHO some of the Firstones' ships looked a bit goofy. Just my humble opinion... And I'm a newbie.
The Thirdspace portal opening was also quite nice, but nothing compared to BotL.
