Lord of the Rings

I realize this is a big no-no, but I had to share this with everyone in regard to "Lord of the Rings" movie. It's from a fan on a Trek forum:
"I just got back from a director's guild screening of Fellowship of the Ring and oh my god...
If you are a fan of the novels YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!
If you're not a fan of the novels YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!
I left the theater utterly speechless. Anyone who knows me (and some of you who've read my posts) knows that I am a complainer and I generally always find something bad to say about anything. I CANNOT think of anything bad about this film! IF and ONLY if I HAD to come up with negatives, I would say that it is a bit long...but it was worth every minute! 99% of this movie looked just as I imagined it as I read the novels. I was into LOTR as well as Dungeons & Dragons when I was young and this film captured the spirit of all that. I seem to recall that Peter Jackson wasn't familiar with the novels, but watching this and seeing how seriously he treated the material, you'd think he was one of Tolkien's biggest fans.
The characters, the sets, the visuals...my god, the visuals! Some of the most amazing CG work ever! I was COMPLETELY wrong about my doubts about the actors chosen to play hobbits. The illusion was so real that the hobbits are only four feet tall despite the fact that Elijah Wood, Ian Holm et. al. are obviously regular size. And the CG effects...unbelievable!!! The scenes in the mines of Moria LITERALLY had my jaw dropping! By the way, to those of you who were trying to help me figure out what the monster was that I saw in the commercial, it was a cave troll...which I don't remember from the book. I don't think I'm ruining anything to say that the Balrog was...just...YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! It kicks Harry Potter's ass!
I'm already anxiously waiting for the DVD to come out. let alone the next film. Do yourself a BIG favor and go see this film! I plan to see it again when it opens on the 19th. WOW!!!"

NO SPOILERS!!

Spoilers? - how can you spoil a movie that has as its source material a book that is:
a) about 50 years old
b) Required reading for any 16 year old.
Ok - maybe not every 16 year old - just boys. But my 9 year old daughter loved it when I read it to her. So - read the books - If you enjoyed Harry Potter you will enjoy LOTR (and that is the original LOTR - not legend of the rangers - which I am looking forward to) It is a bit of a long read and slow in places - especially trying to read the elvish poetry - but the payoff is worth it.

I loved it. Ian Holm, Ian Mckellen and such, they all did excellent job. Only things that i hated was Arwen and Frodo (he was annoying for some reason). Oh yes, Sean Bean as Boromir was AMAZING! And Christopher Lee! It truly was a great movie, if you count out the goody two shoe elves and the hollywood romance story between Arwy and Strid.
Gotta love that beginning, where Sauron joins the fight btw. It's amazing. It's ME!
Damn I'd like to see Morgoth doing the same stuff. Sauron was a fly compared to him in his full power.

"Are you a god fearing man, senator? It's such an strange phrase. I've always though of god as a teacher... as a bringer of light, wisdom and understanding. You see, i think what you really are afraid of is me. Me and my kind, the Brotherhood of Mutants. Oh, it's not so suprising really, mankind has always feared what it doesnt understand. Well, dont fear god senator, and certainly dont fear me... not anymore."

I have a feeling that this movie will be the ONE DVD I have to buy above and beyond all others, next year.

I saw the movie this morning (12:01 EST), and all I'll say is I'm disappointed...it left me very flat. I think a lot of Tolkien fans will be very unhappy.

That worries me... can you expand on why you didn't like the film?
She absolutely loved it. She is going to see it again on Saturday.
I am going to see it tonight. I'll let you know what I think. (I read the books 2 or 3 times many years ago)
BTW, there was no legend of the rangers preview at the Vero Beach FL 12:01 am showing.

The reason I ask is because I am really hoping this movie sets a new record for opening weekend... but the only way that can happen is through word of mouth... I get worried when I see people not liking the film, because that means fewer people returning to see the film again...
Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see how it goes.
I am so F'n P#@#$d off
Needless to say, he's walking from now on.

Oh crap. This is my second post in this thread. I've broken my own lurking rules.
