That was really neat.

The fact that space itself was silent was a great touch. You only heard sound if the camera had the perspective of one of the two craft. The music provided some great support for the entire sequence.

But that Hyperdrive sled was so great! I'd love one. Imagine how fast I could get to town! And I'm sure those blasters would be useful in traffic.

You'd probably overshoot town by quite a bit.

About that Naboo ship. It was neat looking, but it was a little disconcerting at first to hear what sounded a lot like a distant B-17, while it flew past. i.e. a four engine prop plane; the propeller drone was very clear. Oh well, it looked cool.

And I like how its back broke after the explosion.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
The engine sounds were interesting, but yes, some of the sources of the sampling could be identified. But it's a different sound.

The engines of the various ships gave the movie a different feel. Instead of the usual jet turbines or rocket engines, they had a pulse-drive of some sort, or at least a pulsating exhaust system of some sort. But it's neat. Makes them sound somewhere between old ford automobile engines and the late-era turboprop engines.

Which is right about the style of many of the Naboo ships oddly enough, with their art deco design. (Can you tell I like art deco stuff?)
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
Absolutely.

I also love art deco stuff. It's just so neat looking!

Very strong, yet flowing and clean.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I liked the ship sounds a lot. True, you could tell where they came from, but they gave the ships a much different feel. Like Sanfam said, not just the usual jet turbine sounds.

As to the troop transports, I thought they were Victory class star destroyer (which is atmosphere capable) until I got a better look and realised they didn't have the fin things the Victories have.

Is their any info on these ships, like what they are called and maybe a four perspective view of them?
• More notes from warsieville:
Freejack & Biggles: Yes!!! That sound effect just about blew me out of my seat. Freakiest weapon sound in the goddam universe......ok, ok, I'm calming down now. Anyway, there have been a number of propositions as to what that charge actually does. We know that Wars tech has an incredible control of gravity, plus they have some prettty good force field technology, so it could be either or both of those. It definitely isn't just an explosion, because although they could make it go in a ring like that (I don't know how, but they can do enough else with eplosives that there shouldn't be any difficulty for them), the asteroids just shattered with absolutely no indication of heating.

Omega: Those are the Acclamator-class troop transports. Your best bet for technical information on them would be the episode 2 Incredible Cross Sections book, which gives us such tidbits as:
12 heavy turbolaser batteries with four cannons each; beam power is comperable to about 200 gigatons of TNT per shot(I think that's around 8E20 J per shot, somebody check my calcs on that)
24 point defense laser cannons
capacity for 16,000 clone troops and support personnel
They're around 750 meters long, whereas I think the Victory is closer to 1200, and cannot land.

Has it been considered that it might be a resonance device?

THe green vapor that was expanding from it might be an artificial medium to allow the effect to reach a target.

The detonation sound also had a strong reverb, which just reinforces the belief that it is a resonance device of some sort.

I guess I'll just go and watch it again.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
It sounded like a resonance device of some kind, but I doubt you could get it to spread its own vapour effectively enough to make it work.

I knew there was something else about this movie and I could quite place my finger on it until I saw it again on Friday. Several of those scenes in the lower regions of Corascant have a very Blade Runner feel, including the dot-matrix style display screens on the sides of buildings.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Yeah they do. It's quite cool.

A Gravity Resonance would be a different story.

As to Corascant, there was a definite large amount of borrowing from Blade Runner (especially at Night), and from Fifth Element.
Yet, it still had it's own flavor that was very Star Wars'ish in my opinion.

I think though that I am most impressed with the scenes towards the end, in he back areas of Corascant where we see decay in the buildings, and you see the lights of the main city at a distance. I just loved all that architecture.

I have to go see it again myself. Can't wait for the DVD.

Returning to the Death Star holograms and the protrusions sticking out of it at regular intervals...

You guys need to watch closer at the big one on the back wall of the command center cave, but you can also see them faintly in the hand held hologram that Count Dooky holds before he goes to his Air Cycle (which is borrowed from Larry Niven's Ringworld I believe).

• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
On a second viewing, I have pretty much determined that those protrusions are simply labels. They point out one of the primary laser emitter, the focusing dish, apparently the cooling vent, and the reactor.

That wasnt decay, it was the Imperial Palace being built (This was originally in the books but it also appears in the intro for TIE Fighter, the dark side ending of Jedi Knight and briefly in the Special Edition of Return of the Jedi).

Here is a picture of what it should look like once it is completed.

Yeah! It's got no bones of enemies, no solid gold doors, no large, empire-viewing windows...

B-O-R-I-N-G.
• I know you're joking, but:
It definately has the windows, and the bones are likely, but I'm not sure solid gold doors is Palpy's style.
And at the range of that pic, wouldn't one pixle be tens of meters or something? That thing's supposed to be f**kin' huge.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
It had better have a nice big supercannon in it then.

I think I have figured out why the Jedi don't feel the darkside when Senator Palpatine is near.

Could the Senator be a clone with the force powers eliminated. I forget which book or graphic novel it was in but Darth Sidious had several clones made of himself just in case he was killed, they don't say when the clones were made.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
I'd assume they were made after the empire was created. Also, I'm not quite sure you can just "edit out" the force powers of a being. Isn't it directly related to their genetic structure, or some such thing
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Having force ability is more like luck, I think.

THE MOVIE KICKED ASS.
Yoda kicked ass, well for a gimp.
Also is was cool when they where using beam weapons on those Trade Federation ships. They made the Hull vaperize for once in starwars, befor the ship being destroyed. CGI KICKED ASS SO BAD .
And the best part was the end. When they troops where being depolyed .
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
