Never could get into Elite though, I think it had aged far too much by the time I heard of it (which was when Elite 2 was released)
We've passed £590,000 and we can reasonably expect to reach the 50% point some time this week. Some have said that David Braben could show a bit more excitement in his own video dev diaries, but he's not that kind of person. What some people don't get, it takes a special mind set to become a programmer. The extroverted kind like Chris Roberts are the exception, not the rule. DB is excited about the game alright and so are the current and future backers of the project. I may even pledge more as we approach the deadline. :)
With 13,479 Backers £627,454 pledged of £1,250,000 goal and 35 days to go.

I certainly look forward to a much more dynamic universe. I like where this is going. :)
Push!! Push!! :D
And here's the first part of an interview with both David Braben and Chris Roberts by Gary Whitta (former PC GAMER magazine editor turned movie writer).
Edit: Here's the second part of the interview.
Updated Stats: 14,722 Backers, £680,243 pledged of £1,250,000 goal, 28 days to go (54.42% reached, 46.66% time left) It's going to be close at the current pledging rate.
The developers have to striker a precarious balance between getting people on-board and biting more off than they can chew. :D
The Elite series always inspired more than anything else and I'm pretty sure it's not going to be any different now.
Here's a view of the KS stats for the project. While it looks like it may not make it, I'm confident that those who pledged so far will gladly chip in a bit more just to get it done.
I do hope this one makes it, especially after watching some of the joint interview with Braben and Roberts earlier.

I may actually consider pledging more just to get into beta (or even alpha) testing.
While pledging continues at a nice pace, it's still not quite at a comfortable level. At least it won't be overshooting its intended goal by too much.
The good news is, if the remaining £524,320 had to be split by the current backers, this would mean an additional pledge of £33.59 per person, which isn't too bad. ;)
Theory: At current pledge rate average of about (£750,000 / 40) £18,750/day, FD will have (£18,750 * 60 days) £1,125,000 and thus be £125,000 short of the set goal, it would have taken another week on KS to reach the goal. As far as I understand how KS works, your goal has to be reached, otherwise you won't get a dime. It took 40 days to get 15,800 backers, that's about 400 a day. At average backing rate there should be about 24,000 people backing the project. The missing £125,000 if split up among those 24,000 people would mean an additional £5.21 each backer would have to pledge to push the project over the edge.
Since the reality of human interactions is a lot more complicated, anything is possible.
I think they made a big mistake at the beginning by having nothing to show about the game. It's only as the campaign progressed did they actually start showing prototype videos, concept art etc. That probably hurt them a great deal.
If they do make it to the goal, it will be only just.
As far as I can see, the current ED backers are starting to significantly increase their pledges as more and more details come to light. I will do so as well because this game is part of what I grew up with and I think it would be a real shame if current generations would not get to experience this amazing space sim.
I bought less than a handful of games this year, so I don't mind chipping in more cash into this one. I'd go for the all-digital offering, but that only goes so far and then they make you purchase the goodies and shipping which is something I could really do without. I hope they'll fix this soon.
Edit: 15,994 Backers, £775,163 pledged of £1,250,000 goal, 19 days to go. (62.01% reached, 31.66% time left)
While I'm sure it will help to keep more people working at the company, the success of the whole KS project has just gotten a lot more important right about now.
Currently 16,088 Backers, £783,178 pledged of £1,250,000 goal, 18 days to go. (62.65% reached, 30% time left)
Firing people just before Christmas is morally objectionable and there's no reason they couldn't have kept those people on until the new year. It's not like they would have started work on the game before than anyway. Not that seems that will be an issue now.
They could have just about made it before but now it seems Frontier First Encounters will be the last Elite game.
Currently: 16,177 Backers, £791,205 pledged of £1,250,000 goal, 17 days to go. (63.30% reached, 28.33% time left)
In other KS news: GODUS has 12,163 Backers, £380,756 pledged of £450,000 goal 71 hours to go. (84.61% reached, 9.54% time left)
The GODUS project is also an interesting case study as far as it may indicate what chances ED has. The GODUS KS campaign ran half as long and was capital wise less ambitious and it still looks like it might not make it.
However, you do have to admire Chris Roberts for making this post :)
CR told us early on that he pledged £300 (as Design Decision Pledger) towards ED (not to mention the interview clips). So he showed a lot of support already and it's nice to see that he is firmly behind this project as well.
EDIT: ED Status: 16,650 Backers, £815,296 pledged of £1,250,000 goal 16 days to go. (65.22% reached, 26.66% time left)
GODUS Status: 14,488 Backers, £449,438 pledged of £450,000 goal 45 hours to go. (!!)
Looks like CR's open letter did have an effect. Cool!! :D

We have officially passed the 2/3 mark on the ED KS marathon. :)
After demanding an ALL digital pledge level that includes everything (game, DLC's and PDF of book) except the physical goodies, 156 backers have already pledged at the £80 level. It has taken some serious bickering but they listened and it did get some people to jump on or increase their lower pledge (including myself). ;) I'm expecting this number to rise significantly.
This pledge level also gets you in the second round of beta testing, which is good enough for me. I don't want to pay more for what is still just a video game. :D

New ED video called Scavenger Hunt. Looks very very nice indeed!!
Edit: ED Status: 17,261 Backers, £875,010 pledged of £1,250,000 goal, 13 days to go. (70.00% reached, 21.66% time left) (199 backers at the £80 All-Digital pledge level)
Limit Theory's awesome KS run is over and it got all but the last stretch goal funded. Sweet! ;)
ED Status: 17,425 Backers, £895,370 pledged of £1,250,000 goal 12 days to go. (71.63% reached, 20% time left)[/h]

Edit: We've crossed £900,000!! Which means, if the current backers had to pledge for the project today, each one would have to increase their current pledge by £20.00. :) (£1,250,000 - £900,774 = £349,226 / 17,457 backers = £20.00)
Seriously, the EDIT feature is FUBAR. This is going to get interesting.
Sorry, couldn't resist! :D
