I was expecting Walter to [sp]turn to Peter and tell him with his whispering voice: I see dead people... and I'm not even taking any hallucinogenic drugs.[/sp] :D
Bastards, I tell you, they are all, without exception, bastards. They would sell their own mothers if they could profit from it. There is no salvation possible, if you believe in such a thing. :D
BigglesThe Man Without a Face
If you don't believe in such a thing, does it matter that there isn't any?
Episode 12 gets us into X-Files territory again. I don't quite understand the link between stimulating eye nerves and making people appear normal, but I guess that's what suspension of disbelief is for, to negate science and to embrace fiction, aka nonsense. :D
Still no pattern episode though. I get the impression the makers of the show didn't think it would last past its first season run.
The prologue of Episode 13 can be filed under the "don't try this at home" label. There is an interesting article I read about three weeks ago that lists first aid techniques as seen in movies which can actually kill you.
If you are interested in first aid it's important to get proper training, those courses are usually free of charge. Don't expect to learn the right moves from TV. ;)
Anyway, this episode puts the cast a little more into harm's way. But the solution to the crisis is probably going to make microbiologists cringe. Since I don't know enough about viruses I'll just leave it at that. :D
And still no pattern, well maybe just a pinch at the very end.
Still no pattern episode though. I get the impression the makers of the show didn't think it would last past its first season run.
It's on Fox. The thought probably occured to them, followed immediatly by lengthy laughter and saying things like, "Yeah, right!" to each other.
Episode 14 brings back Hollywood's favorite villains, or at least one of them.
While the chemistry is a bit out there, it does come across as plausible, I guess, but then I only know trioxane in the form of tablets used primarily as fairly reliable fire starters and not as carrier for a toxic compound, but I digress. Overall, it was a lot more convincing than say episode 12.
I get a feeling it was a bad idea to get Leonard Nimoy involved in this show, as he plays a pivotal role with respect to the pattern. The man isn't getting any younger and they are not using him at all. I hope he's ok. Either way, it's going to be a hell of an episode if they have to explain how Zachary Quinto got into this mess.
By the end of this season, most of us won't even remember what this pattern was all about. I'm not sure myself at this point. :D
Episode 15 finally returns to the pattern... some inter-dimensional goodness at last. Unfortunately most of the episode's time is wasted on inconsequential stuff with some interesting effects mind you but the best bits only come at the very end. We now have confirmation of what we already knew about Peter.
Episode 16 is quite extraordinary as it channels classic scifi. Walter's alter ego is a lot more confident on the other side. They even managed to make John Noble look younger. ;) The cellphone sequence doesn't quite make sense in my mind. I'm not sure alternate universes include such large jumps in technical evolution unless it involves travels through time, not just dimensions.
Funny thing is, it's an entire episode about Peter without the actual actor in it. :D Great stuff though. Wow! Fringe is back indeed!!
Episode 17 is indeed not quite as compelling. It's another one of those "rash of the week" plots with the matching make-up effects as we have come to expect. :D
At least we know what to do when some old high-school classmate calls for a meeting. ;)
Next episode seems interesting.. Walter is taking drugs and hallucinating a musical.
Episode 18 is all about time travel and does neither involve drugs nor hallucinations about a musical. So I don't know what you've been smoking and which show you've been watching. :D
Overall this episode is ok, although reused footage always bugs me somewhat, but then it's about time travel, so I guess recycled scenes are supposed to be expected.
I'd file it under a filler episode since we didn't actually get anywhere arc-wise.
I was amazed to see Diane Kruger in the last episode for just a few scenes, given the fact she's a total babe and a good actress.
I didn't even recognize her. :alien: I guess the rash was too distracting. :D

From what I read it was supposed to have that.. but maybe it's another episode later then.. Stupid spoilers I've been reading.. Dont always have the exact correct episode number. heh.
Episode 19 mixes shape-shifting with the consequences of Walter's decisions from episode 16. While I understand that Peter is upset, he doesn't know everything yet since he doesn't know that Walter saved his life.
In other news, Leonard Nimoy will apparently show up in the season finale again as William Bell and this will officially be his last appearance in front of a camera as an actor. Yep, that's right, he's officially retiring.
4 episodes left of season 2. Have to say, I quite liked this latest one.
I'm very doubtfull if that musical episode is going to happen after all.. or maybe it will be the next one? Dunno.. After what happened in this episode, wouldnt put it past Walter to be drugged out of his mind.
And some spoilers.
[SP]The man from the other side? Could it be... Alternate Walter? Walternate? AlterWalter?[/SP]
Episode 20 is just an excuse to give the costume and set designers additional work. It's a bit like those pointless Star Trek episodes on the holodeck. I was expecting Lt. Cmdr. Data to appear at any moment. It's like those trial episodes on BSG. I'm guessing there'll be a Christmas Fringe Special at some point in December. :D
With that out of the way, it was still fun to watch... [sp]a pot smoking Walter, singing corpses, a singing Astrid, a barely singing Olivia, a lowres 3D William Bell talking head that looks ready for a Fringe FPS game or which is more likely I suppose, gives Leonard Nimoy the convenience of phoning his lines in.[/sp]
Then again, I hope this plot twist is not going to be abused to build up the season finale cliffhanger.
Well, that was a let-down for a 'musical' episode. If you don't go all-in on something like that, it just seems out of place when the actors do sing.
Episode 21 is a Peter Bishop episode which confirms what some of you have been guessing all along, there's indeed [sp]another Walter looking for him.[/sp]
It's going to be interesting to see how this is going to play out. :)
I don't quite understand how there hasn't been a Fringe post for the past six months - but that's all water under the bridge now that I've bumped this thread.
Anyway - I think that our 'side' is being far too naive about this whole thing. There was a scene this past episode where Bolivia Spoiler: held a gun on an innocent woman (who turned out to be a shapeshifter), and I felt if Peter or Broyles had been smart, it would have had a very different ending:
"PUT YOUR GUNS DOWN OR SHE DIES!"
"Listen to me very carefully, Olivia. If she dies, we will send her corpse through to the other side, followed by the corpses of every single person that has died as a result of this 'war' you've declared on us. We will empty our cemeteries until your world is a burning hell. And then, we're going to send you back where you came from. I don't know what, if anything, would be left alive on your Earth after that many man-sized objects crossing over like Walter did all those years ago, but unless you want to find out, PUT DOWN YOUR GUN!"
Yeah, Fringe is back yet again. I feel like I missed a few episodes, I am completely lost right now. I have to go back and watch the end of season three to get a chance at understanding what is going on and where we left off. The season starts off with a variation on the cloning theme. I guess the SFX team needed the work. ;) I'll just sit back and watch the show. Tired of discussing the plot holes a this point. :D It would be a bit like arguing about the badly maintained roads of a trip around the world, in the end it doesn't really matter.
I actually felt the same Stingray after watching the 1st episode of the new season. Was a little confused trying to remember what had happened again. Seems ok to date. I just keep watching for Walters brilliant lines :)
Comments
I agree, the 'special' episode was odd...and rather jarring given the presence of one individual.

Too bad the one after it didnt carry as much punch... :)

Turns out Josh and her are an item. Aw. Hope she got rid of the rash :D
Episode 16 was brilliant though. Certainly the best so far for me.

Oh well.
It's going to be interesting to see how this is going to play out. :)
I like how we may get to spend more time on the other side. The money thing was quite funny. :D
I like this interdimensional stuff. Finally this show is going somewhere.
