Smithsonian Holds Vote On Video Games For Exhibit

WASHINGTON — The Smithsonian American Art Museum is asking the public to help select video games that will be included in its first exhibit to explore the art and visual effects of gaming.

The exhibit, "The Art of Video Games," is scheduled to open in March 2012 with a focus on the evolution of games as an artistic medium over the past 40 years.

The public can vote online through April 7. Voters can choose 80 games from a pool of 240 choices in various categories. The games on the site were chosen for their graphic appeal, artistic intent and innovative game designs. Results will be posted in May.

The winning games will be displayed at the museum next year as screen shots or short video clips.

BLah, after looking at their list of games to be included, i find the exhibit to be a joke, Oh well it was a neat idea.

The ET game is on the list. I guess every exhibition needs an example of the worst as well as the best.

But no Kings/Space quest, 7th Guest, Myst, games that re-defined what art in games was, and pushed the envelope on what had been done in gaming before.

I understand that they couldnt put in everybody's favorite game, BUT....

Already voted a week or so ago. A bit low on the PC side of gaming. Otherwise good.

There are loads of games to vote on, more than I would have chosen, just click the dots..
  • The list of things to vote for was not to bad, though I consider the lack of Super Metroid in the SNES era to be a gross oversight.
