I'm just here recovering from my 4th knee surgery, hopefully the last one for a while.

I realize I haven't been around much lately a lot on my plate and stuff... ;)

Jack! I'm glad to hear from you. Unfortunately, things have been a little quiet lately, so people vanishing for a while doesn't warrant as much attention as it used to.

Have any plans to be up and about around the holiday season, or are you expecting to keep yourself fairly relaxed?

Good luck with the Knee, i'm actually waiting to do Shoulder surgery, trying to find the right time as aparently they have to do open surgery not arthroscopic, and the particular procedure they are planning, has an 18 month recovery time... Blah.... oh yeah, and the effing amount of money they want to do it.. fricking close to 50k... bastards...

    anyway....

Yeah, as with my right knee, the first surgery for the left knee was arthroscopic to trim the Meniscus. This second one was an open surgery, and only a partial replacement of the Medial compartment.

The cost for the right knee a year ago was $13k and $66k respectively. This year is a tad bit more but I still have the insurance through Dec 31, thus why I had it done now.

My recovery time is ~3-4 weeks, and I am handling my own Physical Therapy.

You said 18 months? Are you sure it's not 18 weeks? :(

yep, it's 18 months, for 100% recovery, I've been diagnosed with a full thickness rotator cuff tear, The Orthopedist said that after surgury it would be immobalized in a sling for 12-24 weeks, then i can remove the sling but not do anything that requres resistance for at least another 12-18 weeks, then a good 16 weeks of strengthening, with full recovery coming a good 4-6 months after that.

He said if the tear wasn't as bad, that i'd be in good shape after 3-6 months, but it's going to require an open shoulder surgery lasting several hours.

    Fun Fun Fun!
  • Heal better Jack, I did know you were under the knife.

Glad to see you posting again JackN, hope your knee recovers soon.

Entil'zha, ouch! And 18 months recovery time seems extreme :/
  • Entil'ZhaEntil'Zha I see famous people
Worf, Thats what I said, He did say that 18 months is until it's 100%,

The last major surgery I had was about 9 months recovery...
  • I had my wisdom tooth removed five years ago, I'm still on the process of mental recovery.

Good to see you back on here JackN and good luck with the recovery! Seems to be surgery season at the moment. My dad had a back operation 2 weeks ago, can't stand or sit for 2 weeks. Has to lie flat or walk. The surgeon reckoned 8 weeks recovery and likely 6 months before back to normal. Then my mum slipped in the snow and broke her wrist. Had to have surgery on that to fix it, wire inserted etc.

Sanfam is right, things have been a lot quieter on here the last few months. I know I don't get as much time as I used too. Too much going on at the moment.

Funnily enough I was imaging in the operating theatres last week the very procedure you've just had JackN! All I can say is I'm glad I didn't have to have it done as it can be pretty brutal stuff! And gory too, which is cool! :D

Entil'Zha, that really sucks, tho I find 18 months to be a surprisingly long recovery period. I'm guessing they get paid by the hour?

Hey Jack! Good to see ya around. Good luck with the knee. Hopefully you wont have to walk around in a blizzard with it every day like here in the baltic sea. :)

You look just like that guy from Supernatural.. Bobby.

Do you curse by saying "Balls" too? I wish I looked like someone from tv.. Or atleast not like someone from a german adult entertainment video. One mistake, you make one mistake while drunk on tequila and high on hallucinogens and it follows you everywhere.
