My wife wants to start watching Dr Who

So I've been adding seasons to the Netflix instant queue. Should she start with Eccleston or skip to Tennant?

    Agreed, start with Eccleston. I disagree with Shadowdancer but it's always best to watch from the beginning.

    But Eccleston's episodes make a far better introduction than the following seasons.

    I hadn't really watched much of Tennant's Doctor until recently, and my opinion of him has gone up considerably. The only problem with Eccleston's Doctor was that it was a season one performance, I dont think they really found their stride until later, after Eccleston had departed.

    Yeah, I agree. Eccleston is definitely the better of the two, simply because he's the one Doctor that you wouldn't want to make angry. Matt Smith is the closest we've gotten to that. Not saying that David Tennant isn't a good actor, but I didn't like him as The Doctor as much as I did Eccleston.

    Eccleston's Doctor, when mad, is pretty scary. No offence to Tennant, but he just can't pull that off. He's angry sure, but not scarily angry

    Despite Dax's warning, Torchwood is fairly good. Season one has some pretty bad episodes but two and three were both excellent.

    It was never broadcast at the same time as Doctor Who but both shows have references to events in the other.

    Basically, the way it goes is.

    Doctor Who season 1 and 2.

    Torchwood season 1.

    Doctor Who season 3.

    Torchwood season 2.

    Doctor Who season 4.

    Torchwood season 3.


    There's the Sarah Jane Adventures too, which is a more kid orientated show. The first season was good but with the exception of one story, it hasn't quite lived up to it. It's up to season four now.

    oh don't get me wrong I LOVE Torchwood, but if someone is hesitant about watching Doctor Who, I think Torchwood is a bit much past that but still brilliant!

    Put it to ya this way, I have a high tolerance for bad writing, but I couldn't even finish watching the first season of that show. I liked a couple of the characters, but that was just horrible writing all around! (The last episode I watched was the cannibal one.)

    David Tennant is the best Dr ever! No other gave the Dr so much emotion and when he is getting angry in Waters of Mars or other episodes, i think he is really frightening. Timelord victorious!

    Still miss him because Matt Smith don't give so much character to the Dr and... well.... I think I don't like the actor.^^ His Dr is more Alien...

    Anyway... There's no accounting for taste.^^

    Start with Chris Eccleston. :)

    The first series is pretty terrible. There are far too many awful episodes, and the writers seemed to think that making a show more "adult" meant making porn.

    The 2nd series, on the other hand, has quite a few very good episodes.

    I completely forgot about torchwood. The generally uneven quality of the first series really made it tough for me to keep interest in the second. I remember watching the finale but not particularly caring about what happened shortly after.
