So I finished it on insane a few days ago. Started a new character in ME1 now to take through of both games because there are still different choices and dialog options I want to try.

Same, I've got 2 more saved games from ME1, each with different origins/classes etc that I want to play with, see how they affect ME2

  • I finished it today with a new character since I didn't have an evil one that I finished the game with from the last game. I think I'll start with some complaints actually.
Yeah, I know that driving the Mako around had its downsides, but I felt that it really added a sense of adventure to it. Just scanning planets isn't the same as actually being on the planet and looking at the scenery and especially the alien skies. I have to say that I actually preferred the old exploration to just scanning these planets.
I also felt the writing was weaker in this game, especially the romance. It just didn't feel as real as in the last game. The universe also just seemed to be missing something that the last game had that made it feel like it was acutally inhabited by people.
The game also felt shorter for some reason. Probably because we didn't have to drive around all over the place in the Mako I suppose. And each place you go to kind of felt like I was being rushed. I really liked Noveria in the last game for example, and the Citidel in the last game seemed to have plenty to do in as well. I just didn't feel like any place in ME2 was equal to the original in that regard.

    Things I liked though:
How about not having to worry about a gigantic inventory anymore? That's probably my favorite improvement of the entire game. I don't have to worry if I have enough room to keep anything I find! And managing the ammo types was so much better as well.
And of course the combat was a lot more fun, though I actually felt like there just wasn't enough for me. But I did play on Normal and now I've started up a game on Vetern using an old character. Hopefully I'll be able to satisfy my bloodlust more on this difficulty.

I don't think this counts as a spoiler, but did anyone else screw up and miss their chance to sleep with the character they were romancing? I thought my opportunity would come automatically like in the last game, but I never had my chance. Guess I screwed it up somehow.

Oh, and one more thing. Spoiler: I really wish I had a chance to let Joker die. That guy really annoys me, and they only gave us more and more of him this time. I was really hoping I'd have the chance to let him get shot or spaced or taken away as some Collector experiment somehow.

I actually liked the writing more in this game (even if there are some holes int it).[SP] Like if you bring Legion to the Migrant fleet for Tali's trial. She is blamed for bringing active geth to the fleet. I bet Shepard bringing Legion would count as bringing active geth[/SP]

Romances play out differently depending on who you have the romance with. [SP] Like Kelly Chambers the last part of the romance happens after the mission if you save the crew[/SP]

    Haha that's brilliant Worf :D

Yeah the biggest thing I didnt like about ME2 was the lack of Mako, exploring just didnt feel as epic as before. Also, the Citadel just didnt feel right. Given how much of it we saw the last time, this time it felt like you were being confined to a tiny corner of it. I wish they'd even just imported the maps from ME1, at least those were bigger.

One thing I didnt get after playing it thru was about the Reapers. [sp]Unless I understood it wrong, the Reapers are based roughly on the image of those they force to create them, hence the human shaped Reaper in the final battle. Why? I mean, why bother doing that? Even in the end cutscene when you see them all hovering outside the galaxy, they all looked to be of the same design. The human Reaper seemed totally unnecessary[/sp]

EDI (Normandy's AI) is voice acted by [SP]Tricia Helfer[/SP], I recognized her voice almost immediately. :) Sweet. [SP]She's also voice acting Sarah Kerrigan in StarCraft II.[/SP]

There are more voices you should recognise, you may not have encountered them yet.

how can a Spoiler: giant planet destroying robot be unnecessary?

    You don't say... cool. :)

    I hope [SP]Michale Hogan[/SP] sobered up. :D

And you should also recognize some who are not in the Stars of Mass Effect 2 trailer.
    [SP]Like Claudia Black[/SP]
  • ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
    And [sp]Yvonne Strahovski from Chuck[/sp]

RubberEagle: no thats not what I mean. [sp]Of course the giant planet destroying robots are necessary! I just dont see why they need to be human shaped. Sovereign was a great design, but if a human style one is ever completed (which it might not be now the Collector base is taken out one way or another), how on earth is it going to travel through space? Swim? Get in a ReaperMobile? Ok on a planet it would look intimidating, but in space it would just look stupid! Tho I dont mind Bioware proving me wrong of course ;)[/sp]

    [Spoiler]Maybe it's a transformer?

[sp]If it is, then I hope Michael Bay shows up so I can shoot him :p[/sp]
  • C_MonC_Mon A Genuine Sucker
[SP]well, human reaper could move through space by fitting a rocket pack on it's back. :)
Really, I don't see a problem making it move through space.[/SP]
  • ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
Oh come on.....C_Mon.... :p [sp]that would just look daft! And even if it didnt, the Reapers would never again look as badass as they are right now. Their image as being the destroyers galactic civilisation would just be shot to pieces with what would essentially look like a giant terminator with a rocket pack flying thru space[/sp]
  • C_MonC_Mon A Genuine Sucker
[SP]Well, just to satisfy your curiosity I looked around for some answers to your question. And Something that I didn't think of before was that the human reaper was really small compared to the other reapers. So maybe they would still have built a spaceship around the human thing.[/SP]
  • ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
[sp]Ah, so maybe the human part would just make up the 'core' of a standard Reaper? That I could live with[/sp]
  • Spoiler: Yeah, I was playing as an evil female character and was going for Kelly. So I can go for her after I beat the game? Good thing I chose to continue on that character instead of starting over with her. I'm playing with my old male character now. Time to finally romance Tali. A funny thing I did is redesign him to look like this really crazy and funny coworker I used to have, and I was really pleased with how close I managed to make him! Of course, now I can't keep myself from laughing whenever I see him.

You do know Worf already posted a link to that in this thread? :p
  • StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
I don't know what you are talking about. :D
  • RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
Spoiler: A human reaper doesn't need a rocketpack to travel through space... it just needs beans!
  • StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
I wonder how much more taxing ME2 is on hardware than its predecessor? The first one was a system hog even on the lowest settings and it was painful to watch how it chewed up my gaming laptop and spit it out after each gaming session. I suspect that ME2 isn't pulling any punches in that respect?
  • So... how 'bout those aliens, huh?
