Wow that is pretty impressive

Yeah, makes you wonder what NASA is up to. I think they are just faking it. It's so hard, dangerous even to travel into space. I mean if a civilian can do this!! Too bad you can't use balloons to escape our atmosphere. :D
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
Sending up a camera to sub orbit by balloon is a lot different than people into a stable orbit

They are undoubtedly working hard to making us believe that. :D

It's certainly not as hard as it used to be. It was once impossible to make something heavier than air fly. Where there is a will there is a way. It's not in the interest of big corporations to make space flight accessible to just anyone. As long as they can charge thousands per pound to be airlifted, there is no need for change. As long as profit is the driving force, we are not going to change the pace of progress. It's certainly not the quest for knowledge that gets us to where we want to go, otherwise we wouldn't waste money on wars.

But I'm no doctor. :D

That falsely assumes that it is only possible for there to be one driving force, rather than multiple (particularly across different people).

What other driving forces are you referring to? Don't you have bills to pay? :D

I think the quest for gain is the most important force. Power, jealousy, pride, love, ignorance and downright stupidity are forces too that can't be underestimated for sure, but greed is at the top of that list. Last but not least you have gravity. :D

It's mine, all MINE!!! MUAHHAHAHAHAAAA!!! Preciousss!

now I wonder if you could get a balloon to take you to that point and then, use a rocket to get the rest of the way, into a proper orbit... I guess the hard part is getting that much weight under your balloon and having some way of controlling the launch from the ground properly

Some students at MIT have done something similar.
