F3 just froze up on me on my way to the RobCo factory. As I save often, it's usually not tragic, but I will see if disabling AA and AF is going to help as much as it does in other games.
RubberEagleWhat's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
I'll probably eat my words in a few hours (since i'm currently reinstalling F3, + the pit & operation anchorage (disc version, since i can only get the german-dubbed version through GFWL)) but ive played F3 on two vastly different machines (one intel/ATI and one AMD/nVidia), and had no real problems with the game...
So far so good, turning off AA and AF certainly helped to increase the frame rate of the game, so not only does Fallout 3 run faster it should also be less likely to misbehave.
I postponed talking to Moriarty to find out the location of my dad until now. Early on he had asked 100 bottle caps for that information. Now he wanted 300. I decided the bastard shouldn't get a single cap and I levelled up my science skills enough to hack into his 'puter to get the information at the cost of some karma. Just for kicks I saved the game and took the password from his lukewarm body, but I thought it would be nicer for him to live with the memory of me robbing him. I haven't talked to him yet, but I can't wait to see the look on his face. :D
Been to Arlington Cemetery as well. Creepy place, but artistically a very nicely rendered map.
I'll be going to GNR Building Plaza next. I saw the fire ant boy run towards me and I just ran the opposite direction and jumped into the Potomac to cross to Farragut West Metro Station. Raiders and super mutants were battling each other from both shores, so they didn't notice my arrival.
This game is truly special. I'm glad they keep pumping out expansion packs. This is without a doubt the best RPG I've ever played (besides real life that is).
Fallout 3 can still crash when you exit the game. It will behave erratically some time before when you try to move the mouse cursor to select items in a menu list by jumping all over the screen. That's over the course of a day of 12 hours of continuous play. I suppose there is some kind of memory leak taking place when you reload savegames. I guess that's to be expected for a game of this magnitude.
Funny thing is since I'm such a good guy in the Wastelands, people of Megaton are giving me gifts every now and then. Sometimes it's a few stimpacks, bottle caps or shotgun shells. I must have pissed someone off too, because I got a contract on my head so I've been attacked by Talon Company mercs twice already. Considering all the gear I've pulled off their dead bodies, I prefer those bountiful attacks to all the gifts I've gotten from the Megatonians. :D The Talon Combat Armor for instance is still the best I've run into so far.
I'm on ThreeDog's first mission, to put a radio dish on top of the Washington Monument. The dish was fairly easy to find but it turns out it may be harder to install than I first thought. The place is crawling with super mutants and I feel like I may have to resort to drastic measures to clear the place. I brought along a missile launcher but left the Fat Man at home. I'd rather not nuke the place again, but I have to see what my options are. I managed to pick off a mutant who had come too close to my position, but it's going to get ugly real quick from heron out. You attack one and you alert the rest and that's when the $hit hits the fan.
On the other hand I could try the stealthy approach... but where would be the fun in that?
BigglesThe Man Without a Face
The Talon folks were put on your trail for not nuking Megaton. Which is great, you get a semi-regular supply of combat armour and ammo. :D
I got disappointed in Fallout 3 ending, I keep it spoiler free so don't be afraid.
Because I play the PS3 version of it, there is no way to continue playing after the main storyline is finished.. Even though there is no reason why I shouldn't be able to continue.
With PC version I believe there is a patch which allows player to continue after storyline, but not for PS3... So, I luckily had some savegame left from earlier stage of the storyline, and then I just used a clitch to get myself a power armor training early and continued to explore the capital wasteland. :P
This: http://planetfallout.gamespy.com/maps/1/Capital-Wasteland
is a great map to help explore the place, as there are just so many things out there which you cant find by walking all over pointlessly. At least if you want to do something else than play :)
Gotta say Lincoln's repeater is one great gun, as it has no deviation at all :) Sniping with it from long range makes things just way too easy. And if someone surprises me, Charon with power armor and ultimate close range weapon, reservist sniper rifle takes care of the close encounters. I decided to leave another companion, Dogmeat, home as he usually gets in the trouble and dies...

Unfortunately, I left the sniper rifle back in the shed. I'll have to bring it along now that I've added the strong back perk. The difficulty is to keep those guys at arm's length. :D

Well, it's the journey, not the destination that's great in this type of game.

Just found Lincoln's rifle. :D Now I know why I felt it important to explore this part of the history museum. :)
I've just finished Fallout 3 and the Pitt and Operation Anchorage. The choice you have to make in the Pitt seems to be a bit strange to me, as there seems to be no 100% right or wrong. People who've completed it will know what I mean.
I've just complete Secret Files 2:Puritas Cordas.
Freespace which I got from GOG.com. I've got the basic game but I wanted a version with Vista compatibility and the Silent Threat mission pack.
On my Xbox 360 I've been playing
Blazing Angels 2
Battlefield:Bad Company
Star Ocean:The Last Hope
Saints Row 2
Army of Two
In Blazing Angels 2, is there a ridiculous amount of communications chatter, including hearing the incredibly stereotypical rebuttals from your enemy pilots?
BA1 was so full of it, I had to take it back to store.
There is quite a bit of comms chatter, but its not nearly as stereotyped as the first one. The game is also, at least in my opinion, a lot better with a far bigger choice of aircraft.
The only thing is that I feel the multiplayer community on the 360 is quite small.
How can you finish Fallout 3? :D Have you looked underneath every nook and cranny? I bet you missed something.
Finally made it to Rivet City, nice boat. Of course it wasn't just a matter of walking there. I had a couple of odd events. The first was a female scavenger armed with a rocket launcher who should have stayed out of my business. I was sneaking up on a super mutant outpost which was guarded by two creepy centaur slugs or whatever they are called. I managed to dispatch the first, but the second one got blown to bits by that scavenger with said rocket launcher while I was standing but two paces from it and crippled me in the process. I turned around and told her my peace before reloading the savegame. This time I let her duke it out with the creature by herself and then she decided to go mess with the super mutant trio which ended up killing her. I finished off the two badly wounded buffoons and looted the place before moving on.
Just before reaching Jefferson Memorial I ran into another super mutant camp which I cleared from a distance and "rescued" a captured wastelander. The fool immediately ran away and got into a crossfire with a caravan which had gotten into a skirmish with another super mutant patrol out on the Jefferson Memorial peninsula. Of course he died. Silly wabbit.
Anyway, it's touches like that which make this game come alive. Not to mention that makeshift Raider Xmas tree and the "chandelier" at Dukov's place. :D
I had completed the main story then got the DLC. I had saved just before the end decision, so reloaded and played the DLC.
I do find it funny that raiders in their crappy armour don't think it would be a good idea to get out of the way of someone in T-51b Power Armour who is carrying enough weaponry to level a small city. :)
I was wondering what other games you could find for Ubuntu Linux and I did a little search in the Synaptics Package Manager. I stumbled upon FooBilliard, a modest looking little pool billiards and snooker simulator. It's such a modest game, you'll be hard pressed to find a user guide anywhere. So I did a little search on the web and found out that there is no online user guide, but there's also a Windows version out there that plays just as well.
If you like pool at all, you should check it out. It's free and it holds pretty well against anything I've seen out there. Just unzip and run the executable, no installation required.
BTW, press F1 to get the HELP instructions and ESC to get the options menu. :D
I wonder what other gems are hidden in there. I'm still playing Fallout 3 though, but every now and then I need to taker a breather.
BigglesThe Man Without a Face
You should try Neverball. We used to play it on the 52" screen in the lab and make everyone else sick. :D
Wicked, I can see how that can make you seasick. :D I prefer to play on a level surface though.
Finally finished Moira's Wasteland Survival Guide quest. All that trouble to get a mini nuke. I took the animal friend perk to be at least safe from some of the critters that roam the wilderness.
I found the Citadel but so far haven't figured out what I need to do to get inside. Sold 10 pre-war books to one of their librarians in the Arlington library which I got 1000 bottlecaps for. The caps will help me check out the themes I can retrofit my shed with in Megaton. I tried one of them and it still looked like a shed inside afterwards, so I guess I won't be spending the caps on furniture. :D
I suppose I'll have to see what I can do at Tenpenny Tower, even without nuking the crater. I like how Fallout 3 allows you to get stuff done without the usual grind that comes with similar sandbox games. The game still crashes once in a while, but it's very stable for a Bethesda release. ;)

The first GTA game I actually finished. GTA4 was the second one. SA is still the best of the lot as it offered a lot more fun stuff to do.
Or using the Tank cheat to blow things up...
