Fascinating!

It should only take a few hundred more years to blow itself out. Almost there!

Saturn's rings, the great red spot, continental drift... another few million years, and the whole damn system will have gone to hell.

Think its due to global warming?

Nah the great spot is shrinking and fading since it got laid off from work. ;)

So Arthur C Clarke was right, I wonder where he got his information from?

After blowing for so hard and long it shrinks in the end.

I think some of you are failing to grasp the severity of this phenomenon.

This means that we are going to get a second star in this solar system.

So much for lowering CO2 emissions. It's all in vain.

We are all going to die a horrible death!! :shadow1:

Alright, here comes mr. boring to lay a lid on jokes such as this. :p

Spoiler: According to this site, Jupiter would need to 80 times more massive to actually start the process of becoming a new star, not quite what the urban legend tells, right. ;)

Were all going to die a horrible death anyway though.
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
Well, the monolith may just be powerful enough to start that fire. :D

I suppose in one sense you could consider all Jovian-type planets failed stars, in that they failed to accrete enough matter to ignite thermonuclear fusion, but really its semantics
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Yep, in that way of thinking our earth is also a failed star.
• whitestar90whitestar90 Elite Ranger
Only by about 300,000X or so
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
But if we crash a couple gas giants into the Earth, it could become a star.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
You would need about 60-80 Jupiter masses.
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
If we crash the entire Sol system into the earth (including the sun), it could become a star.

If we throw RC off the planet we'll need several hundred more masses to become a star

I thought this was about the size of my...head. >_<
