how dangerous is drinking sulphuric acid?

Lord RefaLord Refa Creepy, but in a good way
My gf's friend drank some in france, used to cleaning purposes.. and actually cooked some vegetables and ate those before.

Now refusing to go to hospital for check up and the french doctors told her to drink water.

Just wondering how stupid and dangerous it could be?

Um, really depends on the dilution level of the acid. Sulfuric Acid is actually less acidic than stomach acid (Hydrochloric Acid), but the rest of your body can't handle it: mouth, throat, intestines, etc.

However, remember that a lot of hot peppers have acids in them; if it's not a lot, it's might be ok, but I'd definately recommend getting it checked out professionally since in sufficient quantities and dilution levels, it can be very dangerous and possibly deadly.

The purpose of drinking water is to help flush it through the system and to help dilute it.

No offense Refa but make sure she doesn't end up in the psych ward huh. :)

    Waste of time anyway.

Unless you like drugs that make you even more deranged. :P

Just out of pure curiosity, was there any reason that she drank said Sulfuirc Acid?

Reminds me of a poem my mom used to say when i was young and in school

"Little susie took a drink, but she shall drink no more, for what she thought was H2O was H2SO4"

How's a good way to convince a lady to have a try of an organic protein shake?
  • JohnnyOnTheSpotJohnnyOnTheSpot Banned by request
Make sure its a Chocolate Organic Protein Shake and tell her its just a milk shake?

Is she like anorexic or something?
  • Lord RefaLord Refa Creepy, but in a good way
What if its coming from my man meat and I'm the one shaking it?

I'm trying to remember my acids. I believe it is one of the strong 6. But like others said, it depends on the concentration. A single drop of the max concentration on the commercial market, 18M, will render you blind in 5 seconds.

    What happens after 5 seconds?

Obviously it's a bit hard to tell if you're blind

IIRC it destroys the surfer bonds in the eye, and said bonds are needed in eyesight.
  • I think it would be dangerous

He is an american.. what can you expect? hehe

I am not afraid to bring in the dancing hitler! :P
  • I can't find my nice big reference book but according to the Oxford Uni MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) It gives the following

    Toxicology

Extremely corrosive, causes serious burns. Highly toxic. Harmful by inhalation, ingestion and through skin contact. Ingestion may be fatal. Skin contact can lead to extensive and severe burns. Chronic exposure may result in lung damage and possibly cancer.

Next time you or a friend want to find a fun chemical to inhale, ingest or just set fire to may I suggest googling the msds for it?
