If anyone lurking out there knows of people who are into interactive storytelling, interactive drama - things like that. Please tell them about the on-going discussion at the B5:ITF Dynamic Campaign topic. Thanks.
Though I'm not a programer, I've been following that thread with great interest. Some off the discussion they have been having seem to be on the cutting edge of gaming. It like one big brainstorming session.

Well Grant and I have engineering training, so we're good at brainstorming. And we all enjoy the topic so the ideas just keep flowing.

Definetaly a forum to follow. GrantNZ has brought out some discussions that have been fermenting in the minds of several people for apparently quite some timme.
As Randy and I discovered during the email version, the problem is needing a branching tree structure for the conversation.
Trying to follow the thread in linear fashon is painful. The layers of reference to previous posts, as well as the intermixed overlapped nature of the debate are frustrating to try to unravel in the uninterrupted blocks of 15-30 minutes I (and I believe others) can manage to scrape together at one sitting (usually late at night or over lunch at work).
(Note: this is in absolutely no way a criticism of FO or UBB. Just UBB's suitability to large branching threaded discussions)

Hey Randy are you looking for people in the software biz only? Or do you want TV/theater writers and producers too?

I started following the thread, but I went away for a bit and now it is just growing faster than I can keep up (admins, is there a way to get the whole forum as a text file to read at my liesure???). I'm currently developing (spare time only) a "game" with an interactive dram element, and what I've read I've found very usefull and I've gained alot of direction and stuff...
I'm gonna try and catch up, and join in if I can...

Anybody with an interest in brainstorming what interactive storytelling/ interactive drama could/should be like - anyone with ideas. A mindmeld of people coming from the writing/drama side and interested programmers would be ideal.
For those uninitiated to the needs of and reality of, interactivity as it stands now, there could be a new appreciation.
For those coming from programming backgrounds, but with an interest in storytelling and drama, there could be a new awareness of, and appreciation of, the needs of storytelling and drama.
Both sides -the dramatist/storyteller, and the programmer- need to appreciate and respect the other and realize that working towards a synergy as the most productive goal, IMO.
I think that we also need the creation of a common language (or at least a common background) that can work as an interface between the tools of storytelling/ drama and the tools of programming.
This could be an entertainment renaissance, but it will take an interdisciplinary approach.

Heheheheh. If we can fix the forum problem, perhaps we can apply the solution to game conversations.
I agree with the people who say we need a area/newsgroup/whatever dedicated to the topic. Can one be created here, or elsewhere of use?
Randy has said it well - anyone with ideas is welcome and necessary. Programming is just the implementation - the foundation is story/drama. To implement it, we do need a solid system, but even dramatic people with little system design skills can tell whether a system will fail, and offer viewpoints that designers overlook.
