Sigh, I need help

MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
in Babylon 5
Well, my windows obviously crashed...

Its gone into 16bit mode... 16 colors and no mouse... Its looking for vmouse.vxd, and ive been trying to fix it for the last 8 hours.

Just now got my internet connection going...

any suggestions?

    Did you try just reinstalling windows itself, that sometimes works, also check the Device manager for any conflicts with your video card.

    Messiah, if you can get into windows, and it's win98, put your windows cd in than go to start/ run. Once there type "sfc" without the q marks. it will repair any corrupted system files for you. I hope this helps ya out.

    If the file is corrupt then often deleting it while in DOS will cause Windows to replace it with the original version. Of course, that only works for some files, not all.

    Well I have had a few hair raising moments with my Mac, but nothing as horrifying that happens to some of the PC's at work. God if they give any trouble, the whole hd has to be wipped, reformatted, and Windows reinstalled. On the Mac, you just install a fresh system folder, and bang your back in business. Obviously its not always that easy, but usually the problems can be fixed quite logically.

    Heh, the computer died shortly after Id written that...

    Formatted the harddrive and reinstalled Windows, voila! Ok, so I lost everything, but at least it works again..

    You didn't backup stuff with DOS? That's what I had to do once. It was fun! Like getting back to my roots (I grew up on DOS).
