What ever happened to that first movie?

I remember watching the movie "In the Beggining" on Fox a few years ago. As I recall it was the first thing I ever saw of the B5 universe and it got me hooked. When they syndicated the show they obviously didnt the movie(which might i add was a big mistake). I wonder what ever happened to that tape.

First off, the show was ALWAYS in syndication (at least until season 5, when it was picked up by TNT as an exclusive series). That's how it started. The movie "In the Beginning" was paid for by the TNT network when they picked up the show for it's 5th season. Although "In the Beginning" was created late in the series, it works well as a "prequel" to the show. The Sci-Fi channel now has the rights to air the show, including all of the tv-movies.

For some reason, I like "The Gathering" more than "In The Beginning". Must be because the station actually had shields then.

The second in command ordered the "screens" to be raised when the Vorlons showed up. Then she ordered the defense grid to come online.

I think the "screens" were the intercepters (is that what they are called?). They shoot down incoming fire. The defense grid is actual weapons. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, JMS originally wanted the Minbari to be a genderless race. Apparently they couldn't get the voice altering to work right, so they dropped the idea.

You mean the screens didn't mean those blast shields raised on the C&C main window?
• eamonmcaeamonmca Earthforce Officer
Screens = Blast shutter for window.
Interceptors = Anti projectile fire
Defense grid = Interceptors and offensive weapons control (including point defense guns).

Historically (although things change from one virtual universe to the next):

Screens are a surrounding energy field that absorb energy attacks.

Shields are a surrounding energy field that reflect/deflect energy, particle, and matter based attacks.

Interceptors (or Interceptor Fire) more globally "intercept" incoming fire of whatever nature the attacking fire is comprised of.

Defense Grid is the "system" of defensive or offensive weapons of whatever nature that are tied (as points on a grid) together into one control system.

As far as I know, Babylon 5 never had shielding.

EA had screen technology.

Very few of the races in the B5 universe have shielding technology. The few examples I can think of are:

Alien Fighters in "Thridspace".
The Abbai
And the Alien ship that abducted Sheridan and that other Narn.

There may be a few more but it isn't common...

The defensive skins of Shadow and Vorlon vessels are more akin to screens, as they absorb attack until they fail.

I always thought that the screens meant blast doors to cover the rather exposed C&C.

I really don't think the EA have energy screens. I think you guys are right, the screens are the C&C window blast shield. There are probably other blast shilds all over the station aswell.
• PJHPJH The Lovely Thing
Yes, B5 had blast shields/doors and AFAIR they were used a few times throughout the series first time being in the Gathering.
