So the test begins now...

in Zocalo v2.0
I decided to do a little experiment...
Got my new PC 3 months ago. Fresh install windows XP. Typical daily useage.
The test: No Antivirus software installed. no spyware killers (Spybot S&D, etc)
My only protection? Firefox Adblock with the Filterset.G updater.
Lets see what happened, shall we?
(I'll post the results once the scans are done)

And people think windows is VirusRidden? A well perpetuated myth says I.
(Note: I also would NEVER use MSIE or Outlook...thats just stupid and asking for trouble)
A fresh install without windows updates will usually be infected in an average of 10 minutes after install.
free is good.
NoScript can make plenty of difference, by preventing execution of strange scripts and annoying Flash ads. Most of them are naturally harmless, and can be whitelisted, but some could try hostile things.
JavaScript is generally regarded to have a poor security model for controlling what scripts can do, and with recent add-ons like XmlHttpRequest (widely used for asynchronous partial page updates) scripts are getting more and more capable. Letting arbitrary sites run JavaScript is gradually becoming an increasingly less good idea.
As for Flash, due to it being mostly proprietary, I avoid it so fully that I can't even start listing its other shortcomings.
