So I get an email 2 days ago, and a phone call this morning basically saying I need at least 27 more credits to get certification from the state. My adviser told me NOTHING about this and it is clear that I am not the only one he neglected to inform. I know another year doesn't sound like much, but it messes up my timetable. I will be getting married and will possibly be a full time student with NO source of income. My fiancée might have a job by then and in that case it wouldn't be a big deal. I suppose my greatest disappointment is the fact that next summer, when I hoped to be teaching some classes, I will probably have to be TAKING classes instead.
More importantly, however, I am FUCKING SICK OF TAKING CLASSES! Now, I am going to be sitting next to freshmen and sophomores taking some goddamn economics class.
This is bullshit. Blah...

The dean told me that they are working on a "solution" but I'm not getting my hopes up. My initial estimates turned out to be optimistic. I don't think I can finish in anything under 2 years. Another 2 years to get a teaching degree is not acceptable. I might as well go to law school. :(
You and the others should class action to hold them to the original terms.
I have the distinct feeling that someone might have done so already. The Education Chairperson made an offhand remark that they were consulting the legal department "to find a resolution". For as much bitching as I have done, there are others who are much further along in the program who have just now found out that they cannot graduate (at least with a certification).
The worst part is, I will probably just have to "bite the bullet" and take the freaking classes anyway. Blah...
The University just emailed me today and told me that they would give me all of the extra classes I need to take for free! It still doesn't solve the problem of graduating on time, but it's better than nothing.
Finally!
He's not even married yet--far too young to be grandfathered!
