I actually hope they don't change it that much. Why mess with perfection? TO be honest if SC2 ran on the originals engine with no improvements I'd still be all over it. I just want to play more missions and see where the campaign was going. What awaits Sarah Kerrigan or Jim Raynor? I must know!!! :D

I'm also in with the lot who'd be happy with SC2 even if it used the same old engine, if the story continued. Games don't need to be revolutionary, or even evolutionary, they need to be fun. New features and new concepts can bring new fun, but sometimes the old fun is still entertaining. Otherwise I wouldn't still be playing TA regularly today, 10 years after it was released. :)

I agree. Often times new "features" clutter the game environment and make it far too clumsy. Maybe I'm just dumb, but I hate having to take a class just to figure out how to move a unit from point A to point B and attack.

One of SC's best features, in my opinion, was simplicity. The commands were basic and intuitive, therefore letting the player focus on some kind of strategy without getting bogged down in special functions. Just attack where I told you to, dammit! ;)

I also agree the story was a key aspect of the origional SC / Brood War. I cared about the characters and wanted to beat a map to continue the plot. I need to know what happens next! :)

I think you mean "tactics," not "strategy." :p

I stand corrected... my American Military History professor at Penn State would be disappointed. ;)

The BIG video may take a while to load, but it is so very worth it!

Before complaining about the lack of new features, remember that this is a demo and they haven't got any of this carved in stone yet. We didn't get any kind of look at what the interface will really look like, what commands are available, nor what other units will be brought in.

I just hope they don't leave the Carriers out of the Protoss war machine!

Carriers ruled :)

I knew someone that did a pylon rush once. Yes, pylon. Not Protoss cannon. Just pylon.

Oh, I miss that game!

Give me back my carriers!!!!!!!!!!!!
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Yea, carriers were my favourite unit..

My favorite: tanks in siege mode! For some reason my tactics have always favored the long range ground units, like the tanks in SC and the missile trucks in C&C:RA. In RA, if given the opportunity as an Allied player, I would preserve the enemy factory just to get the missile trucks....

That V1 (or was it V2?) was always unfair. It would obliterate infantry and light tanks! In decent numbers, they could tango with a decent tank rush.
• FreejackFreejack Jake the Not-so-Wise
The only shortcoming they had was time on target...for mobile units, the missile would often fall in a location from which the unit had already moved. Also, targeting a building with a full "platoon" (ie 12 units or the most you could group together) would result in 6-8 more missiles failing than were needed to destroy the structure.

But they were relatively cheap and quick to build.

I would always play protoss, and like most folks started as a Carrier whore... But later on I would play a different strategy. I liked using a mixture of dark templar and dragoons. That has to be the best 1+2 punch in the game. Plus its cheap to build. In bigger multiplayer games, I would make a terran ally send me an scv. Mix siege tanks in with your cannon, and no one is coming in your base.
• Vorlons in my HeadVorlons in my Head The Vorlons told me to.
I was a big time carrier whore. I usually had the fastest computer so it was fun to bog down my friends with lesser system with a the swarm of fighters from the carriers. My other favorite strategy was to airlift a handful of scarabs as close to an enemy base as possible. They were to slow to susrvive but by the time they were destroyed most of the base would be leveled with their insane firepower.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
I seem to be a fan of tanking (probably related to my love of base building -- I just need a game where i just have to build bases) so I often played protos just for their shields. I also play the avon (sp?) in sup com for their massive shields as well.
• i just liked to play silly multiplayer matches against the computer.. get one of those normally boring money maps, put 4-7 enemies against you on a higher difficulty setting and just "tank" them until you have 6 nuke silos :p

You called down the thunder... Now reap the whirlwind. :D

ah ghosts, my favourites among the terrans.. i once did a ghost rush, 120 of them buggers storming a base ;)
• Vorlons in my HeadVorlons in my Head The Vorlons told me to.
Ah the ghosts. That brings back memories. I used to play 2 vs 2 matches with friends. One person would concentrate on base building and running the regular units. The other person would do nothing except spend the entire game concentrating on sneaking ghosts into enemy bases and large unit concentrations to nuke them. It was a brutally effective strategy since it was so difficult to run your base and army while trying to keep an eye out for those annoying buggers. Had to make to sure to always keep units spread out so they wouldn't get nuked and wiped out with one strike. That made them easier to pick off.

Do any of you fools know how to shut off this infernal contraption?
Ah...the ship.... out of danger?

Also, you can't help but love the oft ignored dropship.

Played a capture the flag game once where one of my enemies built hordes of protoss cannons. About 5 levels thick across the entire northern part of the map.

The other enemy kept hearing, "Nuclear Launch Detected" about 20-40 times a minute as I was trying to penetrate the cannons.

Only thing: his flag was sitting undefended in his home base. Those cannons were just defending his fleet gates. I didn't find that out until after the game ended. :D

Hah, can anyone remember this mission?u

I was just watching G4 and they claim SC2 is scheduled for release later this year. Granted, that will likely change, but it may be closer than we think.
• WORFWORF The Burninator
I think you need to ask them what they've been taking if they claim that ;)

• considering that blizzard said themselves that 2007 is out of the question... ;)
• Vorlons in my HeadVorlons in my Head The Vorlons told me to.
According to Blizzard 2007 is absolutely out of the question and at best around mid 2008. I'm betting mid 2009.
