However, the research team believes the average temperature to be somewhere between 32 and 104 degrees and that set off celebrations among astronomers.
Is that Celsius, Kelvin or Fahrenheit? I hate it when they dont write stuff like that out.

well i dont think its going to be kelvin, as there'd be no chance for liquid water.

so where are we going there? :p

Cool! I'm ready to make some real estate investment :)
• If that was celcius... ouch.... sounds like tatooine if it's that hot.
• EclecticonautEclecticonaut Elite Ranger
That's Fahrenheit (0-40°C), but it still doesn't mean there's liquid water on that planet, because the atmospheric pressure on the surface is unknown... for example on Mars water vaporizes at 10°C.

And considering the fact this planet is five times as massive as Earth, the gravitation is way too high for humans. There's also no way of knowing how heavily cosmic radiation is bombarding the biosphere... if there even is such a thing.

So at the maximum acceleration/deceleration that humans can withstand over long periods of time (I'm guessing about 1.2 to 1.5 g) I wonder how long it would take to get there...
That's Fahrenheit (0-40°C)
Bah. Why do people keep going on about Fahrenheit. Fahrenheit was a deluded person, I mean 100 degrees at body temerature? Whos body temperature?

Anyway, Im drunk..

Well, it's 98.6 to be exact, but I take your point. ;)

Anyway, it gives us something to shoot for, especially after this planet goes to crap.

What do you mean, "goes"?
• Space GhostSpace Ghost Elite Ranger
Well, the atmosphere is still breathable in most places. ;)

In the words of Steven Colbert, "a new earthlike planet has been discovered, drive your hummers as much as you want!" :D
• JackNJackN Lightwave Alien
Not so fast... Monsanto probably owns the Patent rights on half a dozen of the plants on that planet... :p
• PSI-KILLERPSI-KILLER Needs help
Sorta funny , get a big colony ship built, after a few thousand years of traveling you get there and it turns out ther is no water there, "ok guys time to turn this thing around"
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
they'll be able to figure out once on it once they are able to isolate the planets light and do some spectroscopy on it.
• Space GhostSpace Ghost Elite Ranger
Or, after they figure out how to build jumpgates. ;)

we dont need another excuse to fuck up this rock some more... das' all I'm sayin.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
Or, we can always fuck it up and move to the next shiny rock. I like my idea better. I demand the liquified remains of dead alien dinosaurs to fuel my internal combustion obsession!

•
i sense a new caprica
Wait, did I miss the original Caprica?
• Vorlons in my HeadVorlons in my Head The Vorlons told me to.
I believe it should actually be called New Earth.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
You're both wrong. It should, quite obviously, be called "Bob."
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
As the lord and master of all things Bob, I second that motion.
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Personally, I find Valhalla better. But Bob works.. :p
