Anime

MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
So I need a new anime to watch. Currently, Im following Naruto, Bleach (which Im thinking of stopping watching) and Le Chevalier D'eon.

Animes Ive enjoyed have been:

Mahou Sensei Negima
Full metal Alchemist
Ah! My Goddess
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Elfen Lied
Paprika (movie)
Various Studio Ghibli (movies)
Voices of a distant star (movie)

Animes Ive not enjoyed so much were:

Hellsing
Ragnarök

Im probably forgetting a few (Im not even icluding the "classic" movies like Ninja Scroll), but I want advice on what to pick up next. I have Cowboy Bebop, but I have lent it to a friend. Im currently thinking of "Kanon" (2006).

So, some feedback onegaishimasu..

I'm going to ignore your tastes and suggest everything Ghost in the Shell (both movies as well as Stand Alone Complex) and Kino no Tabi (you may find it as Kino's Journeys). I've heard good things about Welcome to the NHK from my friend.

I have no doubt that you would enjoy Last Exile. If you don't, there's something wrong with you. :p
Paprika (movie)
You should watch some of his other movies. Millennium Actress is a beautifully made movie. Tokyo Godfathers is also great, and wins the "trippiest ending credits" prize.
Voices of a distant star (movie)
Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho (Beyond the Clouds, the Promised Place), known as The Place Promised in Our Early Days in the US release. Someone saw Voices of a Distant Star, liked it, and gave Makoto Shinkai a team and money. This is the result, and it is stunning. His next movie, 5 Centimetres Per Second, is due for cinema release soon. The trailer is available here.

Why do you think I posted my tastes? :p

Ive seen Ghost in the shell, but havent dared look at the series. I find that series based on movies mostly arent that great. Kinos Journey sounds great though! I will definitely look into that.

Ive had friend recommend that before, dont know why I keep forgetting it..
    Its now on my list.

Tokyo godfather is another film Ive been recommended, trippiest ending huh? Millennium Actress Ive never heard of, going to check it out..

Ah, I actually got "The place promised in our early days from my brother this christmas. Dunno why I havent gotten around to watching it yet. I dont like watching movies by myself, maybe thats why. Series I can watch, but movies are for at least two ppl, and I dont have many friends that are into anime in my hometown..

I should really learn japanese. I want to learn japanese. The trailer looks great though.
yeah, Last Exile is great. I'd also recommend Full Metal Panic.
So full metal panic is good huh? I havent seen more of it than most shops seem to have it, but not Full Metal Alchemist, which leads to them saying "Its not this youre after?". Maybe all the nos have put me off.

Thanks for all the Ideas, friends. Now I have something to go on. We should make this our official anime thread.. :)

    Did I mention I love multiquoting? }:)
  • Add Rurouni Kenshin to your list. :)

Stand Alone Complex isn't based on the movie. It's separate chronology and separate iteration (world or universe, if you must) of Ghost in the Shell.

Also, second Beyond the Clouds, the Promised Place. If you haven't seen it, the Rurouni Kenshin OVA is basically animated Kurosawa (released as Samurai X in the US). The series is complete fucking garbage, though.

Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid (Season 2) are both well worth it. Excelent blends of action and comedy with a few other elements thrown in.

The original Kanon was good, though there were a number of people who didn't like it as much as it diverged from the game it was based off of. They are in the process of airing a second Kanon series that supposedly is more in-line with the game. I wouldn't know cause I've not played it.

If you like Macross, then I would also HIGHLY advise tracking down Macross Zero. Sort of a prequel to the original Macross but it's exceptional. It's a 5 part OVA and each ep took like 2 to 3 months to get out. If you're in the states you may have to look for a fansubbed copy as I don't think it's licensed here and its doubtfull it would be anytime soon with the typical Robotech/Macross clash that normally occurs.

Lelouch the Revolution (AKA Code Geass) is another one that's not bad. Not supurb, but not bad. Currently airing in Japan so you'll have to wait for local licensing or grab the fansubbed versions.

If you choose to watch FMP, know that you can skip the second series (Fumoffu) quite easily, as it's all single-episode comedies made from the short stories. The first and third series are based on the first 4 of the novels which make up the main story line and are thus much more dramatic.

Macross Zero would have been infinitely better if it hadn't crapped allover the original backstory created by Macross. Why did we have to get Macross 7 and Macross Zero when we could have had something detailing what happened to Megal/road One?

I haven't seen SAC, but I'm told it's much more like the original manga (and thus much better) than the movies. Innocence was such a pretentious movie.

I think Ill start with last exile, Biggles and I seem to have the same taste in anime (excellent, that is :p), and I trust him. But I will definitely have to keep an eye open on the other ideas.

Yeah, it was the second series I meant, it seems a lot deeper from the reviews Ive read..

I'm a little disappointed with anime (OVA's for the most part). I didn't care too much for "Ghost in the Shell" because of the "westernization" they did on the characters. "Metropolis" was also overhyped.

The only animes I really liked were Iria, Tank Police and all those goofy episodes that make it onto western television. :D

So I'm not really the right person to ask, I own more mangas than I own anime DVD's.

I guess I could use those suggestions as well. :)

Wow, you really don't like people holding opinions that differ from yours, do you? I never actually said I didn't like them.

I can understand how some people are being put off by the most recent Bleach a bit, but I think the latest episode (114) upped the ante again. Can't wait for the next ep. :) Well worth looking into, imho.

Also, another interesting series to watch that's fairly recent (only 17 eps out so far) is Death Note. Nice mindgames. :D

The problems I have with Bleach is that characters seem to wax and wane in power very much during the course of the arc, also they forget to use their powers a lot. Lets just say theres too much power of plot in the series. Also, its been at a stand still for 100 eps..

Spoiler: And lets not get into the virtually immortal Bounto who forgot to regenerate

Macross Zero was 4 and a half episodes of sheer awesome, followed by half an episode of

You should all remember that Bleach and Naruto are based on the mangas. One anime episode can cover alot more than one manga episode. The anime have catched up with the manga but the anime wants to stay true to the manga so they've started to make fillers for the anime while the manga can get a bit further. Due to this Naruto and Bleached are filled with episodes that have some plot without actually making the characters get any further development.
Naruto fillers have been going for over a year and will end now in february.

The latest Naruto Shippuuden episodes (166-167) have an AMAZING (sugoi!!) art-style. OMG. :D

P.S. Lots of spoilers in those episodes. D.S.

Spoiler: Why wouldnt it be? Nothing to see here.
