Falcon1
Elite Ranger
in Zocalo v2.0
The new seasons of Atlantis and SG1 will kick off on Sci Fi on the 14th of July, which is like 2 days from now :P
I sure hope they have done something to try and salvage SG1! Give it one last push and go out on a bang...

SG1...we'll see.
Worf
I kind of liked atlantis but it became all too similar for me and I stopped watching it. Shame because the end of season 1 was one of the best things I've seen done in a long long time.
I'll post back once I do.
Am really annoyed though that they've taken out the Ancients warship already! Should have kept it for a few more episodes. Would have loved to have seen it in more combat. But it would not have gone well with the way the episode panned out.
As for SG1 I really can't see how they can defeat the Ori with their technology. I'm glad the whole "lets beam a bomb onto their ship" didn't work as that would have smacked too much of Atlantis. I suppose it will all come down to the kid in the end. Her humanity will win over. I suppose.
Atlantis: Spoiler: This was actually rather good. The plot felt surprisingly coherent, the acting and writing have both improved. the CGI was pretty nice, and the Orion was a beautiful ship to see in action. Sadly, now it's rubble. Oh well. But the entire episode made fairly good sense, and even the fact that it was a cliffhanger didn't annoy me (as it had NOT ended on a dramatic note, a first for stargate). It was enjoyable, everyone acted in-character, and all was right with the world. Good. Bring on the next episode!
Favorite moment: When Shephard starts thinking about a dramatic way to attack while in hyperspace...only to completely kill the drama by remembering he wasn't paying attention to the conversation when he first heard it.
Though what DID hurt me was the stupid dialog between Michael and that leader lady person thing.
One of the things I appreciated most about B5 over StarTrek was how gritty everything was in terms of Earth and its technology and social structure. Seemed like what we may be in the future, rather than the foux-utopia StarTrek portrayed humanity living in before the last few seasons of DS9.
But back to the new seasons of Gate, I just thought that it wasnt worth the wait since last season. I watched them and all I could think about was which cliche they were going to use to get out of the various situations. Only Atlantis sort of went in directions I didnt expect. That being said, there really isnt much Sci-Fi out there to watch so I'll be there next week downl... I mean watching the eps.
SG1: Spoiler: It was pretty weak. The entire episode jumped around like mad. Every escape of the team from the carnage was cliched beyond belief. Daniel diving into the rings was just...rediculous! On the plus side, the acting improved, but the writing is still weak as hell. The Ori are too damned powerful, and it's just not something they can just escape from easily. It does not work. The Ori are just too fucking strong, and so without a doubt SG1 will have to rely, as Falcon mentioned, on the girl. She's an Ori in the body of a human, blah blah blah. I didn't have any sympathy for anyone during the entire run of the episode. Have they cancelled it yet?

Spoiler: It did jump around like mad alright. I think they tried to make it more dramatic that way but it wasn't quite right. One thing that has bugged me is how all the Daniel/Vala dialogue has resorted to short smart digs. That worked great when Jack was around but it seems like they've tried to force this back into the show and decided on those two as the ones to do it. Well for me I will stick with it mainly because I want to see when Jack turns up.
With Atlantis yeah that scene between Micheal and the Queen was a bit weak. "We don't trust you"... "Oh ok then". It could have been much more sinister and cloak and daggers like. He turned sides far too quickly. Suppose one could say his humanity or whats left of it played a hand.
Haa that scene with Shepard was pure class! Loved it :D I too am looking forward to the next epsiode, more so than SG1. I wonder now if the "Wraith tech weakness" will surface again? With Michael back on side for now, maybe he will fill them in on Wraith tech weakness which was brought up in the Ancients Sleeper ship episode. Maybe its just the fact they can't maintain long hyperspace jumps and have to stop recharge... we'll see.
On a different note: Anyone own the first season of Atlantis on DVD (US/RC1). I'm asking, because i'd like to know if there's audiocommentaries to every episode like it is on the SG1 DVDs...
including the mid-season 2-parter.
Is that the part where they put a huge gap between episodes for no good reason?
Is that the part where they put a huge gap between episodes for no good reason?
exactly ;)
though the reason is a bit understandable, though it's still annoying:
they pause right before the fall-tv-season starts, so that the new shows on the Big Networks don't take away too much of the audience. In January, when they resume, people allready tried those shows and realized that, again, most of it is crap ;)
That last episode SG-1 episode that had both the full Atlantis and SG-1 crews together actually didn't seem too bad. What a great idea! Do we really need two Stargate shows?
Well its official, apparently no one is watching Stargate anymore. Apparently with BSG not following, the ratings have been some of the lowest ever.

The combined crew was really nice. They all get along very well, and there's a LOT of chemistry between the characters. I wouldn't mind condensing the two shows into one.
But...
Spoiler: Was it just me, or did stargate one of the most incredibly weak reset-button endings of any episode to ever grace the airwaves? They solved no less than three (possibly even four, depending on how you look at it) critical problems in the course of nineteen seconds. "What the fuck."
Though Atlantis was strong, even if its plot was dangerously cliched. I mean, it's a typical Alien Mindcontrol episode, but it was fun. We need to see more of Beckett.

There was, I thought it all worked really well together. Opens up a lot of possibilities. I was wondering if they would ever do that. I really do believe working as one show it could possible work together. SG-1 feels like it has been on life support for a few seasons already. The way the shows have been done is just a little redundant to have two mirror shows. Each one with a small main cast of base commander, a four team crew with resident solve it all nerd fighting their own super enemy.
Spoiler: I really loved McKay's presence on SG-1. It was absolutely fantastic. The Lemon alone was more than worth it. "Was I naked?" "Only partially" *gestures* *carter becomes visibly annoyed* "Get me those calculations"
Worf
It does worry me that the writers have resorted to wrapping up problems really quickly. Oh hell we've run out of time lets finish it quick! The end to the supergate episode was a bit too handy really. Overall I liked the epsiode though, mainly because the Atlantis element helped to carry it I feel. It has been mentioned before that some of the SG1 cast may move to Atlantis when the time comes. I think Daniel and Carter would be the best pick. Atlantis is missing a real archaeologist character and Carter and McKay would work so well.
The Atlantis episode was funny. Could see where it was gonna go from the start but it was still amusing.
But yeah, more cross overs would be great. I remember when they did that with Buffy and Angel before they switched studios. Worked really well. Would be interesting to see Teal'c and Ronan stuck somewhere. or maybe have em do some kick ass combat with the Ori infantry. Yeah can just see it, Teal'c with his death glider super gun and Ronan kicking butt! :p
I freaking hate Atlantis. It has a good premise, sometimes it has good stories, last weeks was NOT one of them, its the characters that I cant stand.
Dr. Wier - I cant exactly put my finger on it, Im not sure what one thing she does that makes me hate her, I think its her personality. She is a bitch, and a dumb one at that. Sometimes I think the writers forget her character background too because she doesnt act like someone who was a tough negotiater.
Teyla - Ive said this before, she is Tealc's religous side with tits. Im waiting for her to raise an eyebrow and say "Indeed". She also very boring. I dont care for her. She doesnt seem to act like any of her people.
McKay - He can be funny in small doses, but episodes that revolve around him make me want to puke my guts out. He is not that funny. I dont see how someone that neurotic could be a scientist. I liked his character better when he did his guest spots on SG1.
Ronan - Admittadly I missed the episodes where he came on board, I know why Ford left and that was fine. I dont know, he just seems wierd.
Last weeks mind control episoed was pretty lame. Could McKay look more longingly at another man? I just thought it was kind of stupid.
Now, SG1 wasnt much better, especially since it sto prominately featured McKay. To be honest, ever since they had the spinoff the quality of SG1 went down. Its kind of disheartening. Especially when everyone gushes over Atlantis. Am I the only one who thinks it sucks?
Atlantis: Spoiler: I'm kind of pissed off at this one. First, we're introduced to the race of beings who just aren't all too kind and friendly. Fine! It's a tough universe, and they've managed to survive. Good for them. However, Weir can't seem to help but be a bitch about it, and goes on to pester them about trade relations every chance she gets. She also continually takes advantage of the one person who appears to be her ally, using him to make her plan fall into place, to carry it through.
Anyhoo, so these dudes, they're replicators in some form...but we discover that they're only evil by *design,* not by will, and that there is a concious desire to *change* that state to one of less aggression. So while Ascension isn't possible yet, the ability to fix their state most certainly is. The truly wonderful thing about this episode is that we've finally encounered a race of replicators who have a sympathetic backstory to them, one which is built up very effectively through their representative, cool dude #1.
Remember that aggression code? Near the end of the episode, McKay manages to fix it in practically no time at all. Problem solved! But guess what? He also sets up some incredibly awful plan to exploit a bug in their code to allow them to escape while not only destroying the city of *NOW PASSIVE* people, but destroying whatever trust might have been forged over their stay and creating an enemy of this entire race of weapons-people. To make matters worse, the writers pull a reset button gag on us and make a representative of this new old alien threat who is now floating freely above the planet Atlantis calls home...
Atlantis: Spoiler: However, Weir can't seem to help but be a bitch about it, and goes on to pester them about trade relations every chance she gets.
Spoiler: Every chance = One time. Besides, that's what they do. They go, they meet people, they trade, they come home. What would you prefer? "Hello. You look like the ancients, and have a city much like ours. One of the people on your leading council seems to be a bit of an asshole, though, so we're going to give up, go home, and never speak of you again, since we don't have assholes where we come from, and must assume that everyone automatically agrees what an asshole says, and that his mind cannot be changed. Ta-ta."

Spoiler: The change hadn't been made yet. The only one who'd been made passive (unless by "passive" you mean "suspended for an indeterminate amount of time") was their ally. They couldn't wait for the updated code to filter through on its own, since by the time it did they would be dead and Atlantis destroyed. That's the whole reason Rodney sent the sleep command. He's not stupid enough to go, "Hey, I made all of the robots nice. Now I'll turn them all off, just for the sheer unadulterated hell of it, despite the fact that they no longer are compelled to hate us. And just to frak with everyone's head, I'll mention that our friend is still awake because he's the only one who's code has been fixed so he's not aggressive." And I really don't think that you can "make" enemies of people whose first reaction to the news of your existence is to attempt to kill you, nor would you have forged much trust in the hatred-filled majority who reached in, wiped out your namby-pamby anti-agression patch from your robot friend, and made him try to kill you.
