Silence and emptiness..

MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Well, I just finished the education Ive been going through (blacksmithing), and left the school Ive been living in (in the middle of the forest in the middle of nowhere) the last two years, and Ive moved back to my parents place(gah!) for the summer, an I feel pretty empty inside..

Also, I left the woman Ive been with the last year (even though we broke up a couple of months ago) back there..

So, just had to let the steam out...

Feeling empty after that is natural. You just need to find what you're going to do next to fill the void.

I know how you feel. Im leaving Edinburgh on Thursday and moving back to live with my parents in Aberdeen for at least the rest of the summer until I decide what Im gonna do. Its possible I wont be back down here except to visit, which would suck as I've more mates here now than I do up north. And of course in these situations there's the obligatory girl throwing a spanner in the works:rolleyes:

Dunno, but sometimes I think that this forum is getting a little too "personal".....are we all a bunch of depressive people?
  • croxiscroxis I am the walrus
No! I'm happy. Mostly. Sans the sneezing. I smell bacon.

Parts of the U.S. have seen what pretty much amounts to 5 solid weeks of rain over the past 6 weeks, with more rain to come this week. So, some depression or falling into a funk is bound to happen to some of the American contingent. I don't remember it ever being this rainy for this long.

    We're not depressives

We're intellectual super powers! All of us here have one thing in common we have knowledge that few people are gifted with. And for that we carry a greater burden. We're a ragtag group of scientists, programmers, gamers, writers, idealists, artists, zealots, & sexual deviants! Depressives coil at the thought of moving forward. We strive for the answer to our lives a key to open the proverbial door. For me I think I've been looking in all the wrong places. Firstones.com will always be a home to me, no better place to chew the fat or shoot the shit! I just received a call from my ex that made me feel alot better I think things are gonna be alright.

Gotta agree with Cable guy.. :)

First, Messiah, I'm sure this feeling will pass. What are you now considered a full fledged blacksmith, or is there an mentoring/apprenticing phase? What are your plans?

Second, I feel very privileged to be a part of firstones, especially what it has become, which is a tight group of diverse but intelligent individuals who supportive of each other.

Third, is that the most coherent post that Cable Guy has ever made?

There is no official apprenticing phase in Sweden. Had I been in Germany, I might have been a journeyman now.
I am going to my interview for the conservator education in Gothenburg (specialized in Archaeological conservation) june 16th, so thats my plan, apart from starting up my own smithy in Gothenburg, to keep my skillz honed.. ;)

Let us know if you ever start a smithy. If I'm ever in the area, I'd love to visit it. :)
  • MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Of course, Ill even teach you the basics! :)

The smithy is planned, the only question is when to get it together..

What type of work do you plan to do? More artisan level stuff like scultpures and one-off pieces or more commerical/industrial items (build to drawings)?

Im more of an artist, as I dont really like to do more than two or three of each thing (as opposed to one of my teachers, who makes at least 500 of each thing he does, excluding large stuff).

But it depends, first of all, Ive got to see how big of a smithy I can make. Im going to build an LP gas powered forge this autumn, and to make a living with one of those, you have to make large quantities of your product..

Also, as an artist, you can actually start getting paid for your stuff.. ;)

Shame you didn't live close in the states, I would order custom parts for the 6 foot trebuchet my boyfriend and I plan to build!
  • MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Hehe, I have several friend who have build trebuchets, and will probably be building one myself next year..

    Will post pictures by then.
