Since when has NASA's job been about teaching the religious viewpoint?

Disgusting, but only the tip of the iceberg. I don't post this stuff here anymore, but if you do some research, you will be amazed at the stuff our administration is getting away with.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
What bugs me more is how most of it doesn't amaze me anymore.
• You know, for some strange reason, I thought the Big Bang was the one thing both ID and Evolutionist hold common ground on...

Guess I was wrong.

That said, looks like he is just being over politically correct...yet everyone goes up in flames.

I'm starting to draw alot of simularities between Islam and Librals, is that a bad thing?

(Fer instance, the cartoons of Mohammud...Islamic nations go up in flames. Yet toss a painting of Christ in a pile of cow shit and call it art, and you will get some fire, but not like what you would get if you tossed Mohammud in the same spot.

Same for this case. Call all ID believers a bunch of flaming idiots, smite us, ignore our beliefs, tell us we can't pray here or there, we cannnot SHARE our beliefs and force yours on us and label it fact. No major backlash. But woe to the person that even QUESTIONS evolution, BREAK OUT THE TOUCH AND PITCHFORKS!!! Lets get 10,000,000 people to go smash him and get him fired for doing his bloody job! )

Gah.

Seriously, if he didn't ask them to put "Theory" behind it, then they have a potential PR blitz...Everyone here can agree it is "THEORY"

Bah. I should just leave this place. There are only what? two other people that actually seem to tolerate ideas other then there own.

You know what? I Will. Bye all

Thank you Sanfam, Biggles, JackN, Vertigo, Rick, Tyvar and Messaiah for all the good times.

But this place is dead. Nothing but political bs anymore.

I've got no problem with calling it the Big Bang Theory. That's what it is. It's the bit about NASA needing to promote religious ideas and only ideas that conform with the current administration's environmental policy that bugs me. NASA is a scientific institution, they research science, they will naturally only talk about science, and they will present all science, not just convenient science. There are others to handle the religious side, and the administration should follow the science not try and make it fit their ideas.

Well, I don't think anyone here ever intended for this to be a personal attack on one's beliefs, so the above post leaves me a bit confused. I still see no reason that there should even be a conflict between science and theology. There's no legitimate reason for any comparisons to be drawn, or for one to deal with the other.

So lets not make this into another failed debate thread and move on, 'kay?
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
Really? The Jesus in Piss art made quite a big reaction......

Anyways, I got some small issues calling it the big bang, because it creates (as well all seen) false ideas of what actually happened. It wasn't so much a bang (which implies something happening in space, which didn't exist) as a period of very rapid expansion.

A#, I'm not sure why you are so upset by this, the statements had little to with any one person's beliefs, but a frustration of the institutionalization of those beliefs. This was not an attack on you or your belief structure.

In addition, I believe this forum has been specifically apolitical as of late. Several news items and world events have passed with little mention (such as the Muslim anger at those illustrations) and in days past would have been the source of three or four pages of discussion.

No your not... ;)

It's just a major disagreement about who/what started it and exactly how long it took! :D

Seriously though, I don't believe NASA should be shouldered with some kind of political responsibility to preach one way or the other. There business should be presenting the data for everyone else to argue over...

:)

Any way you look at it NASA has had WAY too much political BS involved in its affairs one direction or the other.

A2597, you know I have basic ID beliefs, but even I approach a scientific argument from facts. If you ask me for my opinion, that's when you'll get the rest of the mix...

;)

Of the 23 active threads on the first page, only one is political.

I think there may be other things going on here.

A2597, is everything ok? Sure we've had some disagreements, but I'm not seeing any reason to bail out here. Besides, do you want me to have the last word? ;-)

So the guy has resigned. Thats good. But who was behind him? The more stuff like this happens the more apparent it is that the Bush administration is being contolled by a small core group with their own agenda. But then what government hasn't had someone trying to exercise their influence through the top man.

I really do worry about where the US is going. I don't recall Democrates being this way when in power? I'm not 100% up to date on the two parties but have Republicians always been this "radical/extremest" in their policies. They seem rather extreme to me.

A#, youll be back, and you know it. ;)

Id rather see NASA being an apolitical institution, but its not. This doesnt surprise me, sure, I get annoyed, but hey, thats what the world is like, and you just have to accept that, unless youre willing to step in and change it yourself..

It's not liberals that go around bombing abortion clinics.

It is extremists. There are extremists on all sides: Islamic extremeists (called terrorists). Conservitive extremists (ie abortion bombers). Liberal extremists (ie ecoterrorists). Every mindset and culture has their extremists, and they don't represent the whole.

At the same time every group has their intollerant members, and you can't claim that conservatives don't. Just look at some of those televangilists.

--

A, the problem you see that "everyone is intollerant" here is becuase your views are so extreme that no one can associate with them. We are mostly of a scientific mind. You are of an anti-science mind (as seen in some of your defenses of intelligent design). This puts you at the polar opposite of what people are here. If you bothered to read the article it wasn't just about "Theory" being appended after "Big Bang" which in itself isn't wrong. It's about other censorship as well, such as climate scientists being banned from speaking about their research. Such as quotes being taken out of context to support the idea that NASA was already working on the "moon mission" when it wasn't.

Oh, and A#, I'd be equally offended if democrats made NASA political. The whole point is NASA is supposed to be about science, not politics or religion.
