Economy car as defined by who? I'm sure you'll find someone who says 2mpg was an economy car. :D
  • probably 30 mpg and up.

Technically, the Dodge Dart was an Economy car, and compared to full-size sedans today, it's big. But that doesn't mean anything relative to what we have today. If you're using raw numbers, then it's likely the Honda or Toyota oldies would be tossed into the picture.
  • Hmm another thing one the search on the dart brought up...The Road Runner...I distinctly remember John Clark in Without Remorse driving a Road Runner or was it a scout? I always thought it was a truck type vehicle can anybody confirm that?
  • croxiscroxis I am the walrus
Well my 90 corolla still gets 40 mpg on the freeways

There's been "economy" cars (30mpg+) for almost as long as there's been cars.

The 1913 Morgan 3 wheeler had 69.4 mpg

The 1933 Dymaxion could do 120mph and had between 30 ~ 50 mpg

    The 1937 Morris 8 had 38 ~ 42 mpg

Road Runner was a package available based initally on the Dodge Satellite, the later on the Dodge Charger, and carried the image of the Warner Bros Roadrunner charater. The most famous of these cars are the Superbirds (also called Daytonas). with a pointed, aerodynamic nose, and a massive spoiler, that were made to run on the NASCAR superspeedways of early 70s. The street versions had a coefficent of drag below .30 but were generally considered ugly at the time at did not sell too well. Those cars are now worth the upper 6 figures.
