BSG Season 1 Soundtrack

Just been listening to the soundtrack for Battle Star G Season 1. Very impressed!! Bear McCreary style of mixing classical with ethic sounds works really well. They include both US and UK themes on the cd which is good (as I never heard the US one, have to say the UK version is better, got more drama to it). And there's 30 tracks on there, not bad at all!

Definitely work getting guys!

    If you never heard the US theme, how can you determine the UK theme to be better?

    I think he was meaning to state he never heard it previously. :D

    I actually found it to be the other way around. I felt the UK theme was pretty bad, and that it didn't fit the theme or pace of the show. It may be more "emotional," but it felt so forced.

    It might be because I heard it first, but I like the U.S. song better. I just hope that they change the song to a new one for season 3 too, like a different one for each season, like B5 (though the whole title sequence was different for B5 of course).

    Is the UK theme what originally aired on Sky One and is now being used on the second season on Scifi?

    Not that, um, I would conspicuously be so familiar with a UK tv network for only one season for any particular reason or anything yeah.

    It seems that, as far as the theme goes, whichever one you heard first is the one you think is better. So now, if you want to know which Americans are going to go to hell for stealing BSG episodes over the internet last year, just ask them which theme they like better. ;)

    David of Mac, I'm not American and I didn't steal any BSG over the internet. I merely borrowed. :p

    And yup the UK theme is what aired on Sky 1.

    Having now heard both, I have to say that my preference lies with the UK theme, but the US theme isn't bad by any means. Just a bit too empty.

    Not that that preference says anything about me or how I saw the series or anything yeah.

    UK theme, hands down. US theme is also very good, but not as good for the opener.

    Having listened to the soundtrack more its similar to some of the sequences from Gladiator and also Kingdom of Heaven scored by Harry Gregson-Williams.

    I was surprised at how good the score actually is. Given that tv scores tend to be fairly mediocre, especially in comparison to any movies or pilots coming before it, I was not expecting the soundtrack to actually be better than miniseries (and quite good in its own right). Wander My Friends is excellent. Hope a season 2 soundtrack is coming soon.

    US TV scores may be mediocre. Me, I can't get enough Yoko Kanno soundtracks.

    Btw Biggles who's Yoko Kanno? Haven't heard of that person before.

    She's a Japanese composer who's done a lot of work in Japanese cinema and anime.

    She's also remarkably talented, and that is not in any way relative to the general quality of anime, television, or film music. Her work on Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex in particular stand among the best music I've ever heard.

    Cowboy Bebop: 26 episodes (at 23 minutes each) plus 1 movie gives 4 and a half albums. :)

    Yoko Kanno has this extraordinary ability to compose music in any genre she likes and get it perfect.

    I can't wait for it myself. Offhand, this season had the variation on the season 1 track "Destiny" when Spoiler: Baltar dreams of Adama drowning his baby on Kobal, the beginning of Pegasus, and especially the ending with the martial violins.

    What else am I forgetting musically from this season of BSG?

    And you'd be right, but some days cliche is what I look for. Just give me a bell on what kind of music your looking for, and you can guarantee something is in my collection. But I don't do "rips".
