    I wonder if the pictures will still come back in black and white. "Oh, we couldn't afford colour." "Oh, we built the cameras years ago before colour was common!" (referring to some of the mars expeditions)

    Lag from Mars is insane (especially when Mars is on the other side of the Sun)... but bandwidth isn't affected by lag (think "forward error correction", no need to ack and resend).

    Bandwidth *is* however affected by antenna size and transmitter power... and one can only have so much of both.
