Join in the middle of the show? BAD idea...it will spoil the first season entirely!
Seconded. Seriously, I half-wish I found this show ten years from now, so I could watch all the episodes back to back in an orgy of Sci-Fi goodness.
And also... Middle? What the hell do you know that I don't!?  Yes, yes, figure of speech, I know. ;)
Also, having seen it, I have to say... SWEET MOTHER OF GOD, that was good. Honestly, I don't know what to talk about first. Somebody, bring something up for me to reply to. ;)
SG1...what a place to end it! Great ep, and I see a place for the new guys. I have hope
SGA...didn't like it before, still don't. Hate the wraith, acting is better, but it isn't stargate, it's Gate Trek..or something...meh.
BGS...missed it, had a rather interesting conversation with some nice people though...
SG1
Spoiler: I liked the way Ben Browder's character was written, but everything had so abruptly changed between seasons that I felt rather uncomfortable and disconnected. The character of John Crichton--err...Cameron Mitchell certainly has a lot of background, but I just don't see the point for the constant referral to his history in that one battle over the run of the episode. yes, he saved SG-1, but damnit, we didn't need to see it over and over again. And is it just me, or is Vala a good deal less intelligent than she was last time? Too much ditzy schoolgirl, not enough Vala. What happened here? Not much of anything. Beau Bridges...I just don't know if I like him. Too much of a stereotypical "military commander guy" without enough of any difining personality. overall, the cliffhanger was silly and at the moment, needlessly triggered. So much pointless dialog and aimless wandering...it just seemed like a waste of time.
Disappointment is what I feel.
SGA:
Spoiler: Unlike SG-1, Atlantis came off a good deal stronger at the start of this season than it left off. Of course, it took a bit of a cop-out by having the jumper rescued at the last minute by the Daedalus, but that was inevitable given the circumstances (Unless they felt like shedding a couple of characters).
Believability was stretched for a little bit in the beginning, but everything soon settled back towards a state closer to reality. Everything was pretty good overall. The dramatic tension was very smoothly eased in and let off as needed, and the characters all acted just as they should. Good chemistry was found where it was needed. I also think Mitch Pileggi is perfect for the role of Daedalus' captain. He just has that look to him...
But anyway, Atlantis was a success. the ending was quite nice and certainly unexpected (though possibly a bit too easy for the crew to implement), but the point is, it worked and it wasn't the poor excuse for a cliffhanger that ended the SG-1 episode for the night.
Oh, and ten second opening credits are a painfully stupid idea and should be replaced ASAP. I'm a huge fan of the SG:Atlantis opening credits, especially the music, and I was terribly disappointed at the severe lack of *any* thematic cues. Same with SG-1, but to a lesser extent. it's bloody murder, but I don't seem to be hearin' no one else screaming... :(
BSG:
Spoiler: Still thinking about this one. I still really hate Boomer. I really, really do. I don't know what to say about her continued existence. It's just so painfully annoying. It somewhat ruined my opinion of the first season, and having her run as *two* distinct characters just made things worse. One boomer is one too many, thank you very much. But everything else was really good. I especially love the "Cylon Child"/Opera house musical theme. 'tis a beautiful piece of music. The situation surrounding the abrupt jump and lack of transmission of the updated jump coordinates was a rather surprising twist. The solution was quite ingenious, too, and posed what was pereceived by me as a genuine risk to everyone, making it all the more interesting an option. and mmm...boarding parties. That's the fun thing when your entire race is made of metal: smooth landings aren't important.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I totally agree):D
Well BSG rocked once again! I think this season is going to kick more ass than the first :D Here's something to think about. RDM mentioned they would be killing off one of the characters this season. Reminds me of JMS saying the same thing on S4 when they killed Marcus. Anyone want to take bets who its going to be? :D Can't be Adama, Apollo, or Starbuck or any of the other beig characters. I would bet its Helo. His character has now outlived his usefulness now that he knocked up a Sharon.
Spoiler: Starbuck thinks he's gone nuts now for siding with a cylon so it wouldn't surprise me if she takes care of him herself. Boomer is one character who's really going to be interesting to see what happens to her. She's been made out to be a cylon in both Caprica and BSG versions of her. They could kill em off both but there are a ton of copies. Granted they wouldn't be of much use now that they've been discovered.
Baltar has completely in lalaland and totally under Six's manipulation. He's probably going to be made out to be a conspirator once they recover him again so he's another character who's going to be very interesting to see what will happen to him.
All I gotta say about Atlantis is they finally seem to be getting rid of that guy, Ford or whatever his name is. What a useless character.
Spoiler: First off, I like Ford and wish he had a stronger role. Lots of potential and a good actor who is also a huge fan of Stargate. Second, his character is going to become a key factor in the war against the wraith. He's going to become a supersoldier and will lead into a new character joining up, as well as play a potentially critical part in the season finale. And of course, he's going to be leading a small army of similar supersoldiers, so I guess we'll find out more as time passes.

Spoiler: I don't know for sure about that. While Boomer is expendable, it doesn't mean she's going to be the one killed off. Remember the recurring theme here that President Roslin is a dying woman, and that her interpretation of prophecy is suggesting she'll die before the fleet reaches Earth. this makes her an exceptional candidate. There's also the potential for Tigh's wife to be killed off, but I can't quite explain how I came to that conclusion so you'll just have to trust my gut on that. I almost have a feeling that it's got something to do with her abrupt appearance. A cylon, perhaps? I'm also suspecting that tensions may be reduced between Helo and Starbuck, but as the pregnancy develops...who knows. We also don't know for sure if it was CapricaSharon who took the raider. She disappeared, yes, but we never saw her enter (IIRC). Baltar, I believe, plays a role that is too critical for the cylons to let go of so soon, especially with the child (Which also could actually be his, considering the actual physical relationship that existed between hima nd No. 6 back on Caprica (what's to say she's the same being each time she visited?)). I'm also suspecting that based on previous dialog on Caprica between #6 and her pal, how she has never felt the sort of love Sharon is feeling for Helo. This makes for an interesting potential between her and Baltar as a means of resolving this, allowing a genuine relationship to develop (of course, killing him off at that point would be feasable, but it'd be a tad too cliche for an otherwise unique show). Going back to Roslin...You may remember that we've now seen two distinct interpretations of prophecy: one by Roslin, one by No. 6 ("Serpents numbering two and ten", one literally being snakes, the other being the Colonial Vipers). What's to say that she has interpreted it wrong? Perhaps someone else will die before their time?
So many possibilities...
Still downloading....going slow, but atleast tomorrow.
they're up already? where?

Spoiler: Well, is that really a differeing interpretation? I mean, I doubt the writhing snakes on Roslin's podium were actually "leading" to Kobal. They were probably more of an illustration that the prophecy would soon come to fruition, and that it would be from the issue at hand (the fuel shortage). A sign, if you will. Of course, as Delenn once said, "Prophecy is a poor guide to the future." Six is the only one who remembered the following passage that, "Though the outcome favored the few, it led to a confrontation at the home of the gods."
Speaking of that, I recently bought the Galactica season 1 soundtrack, which, in the liner notes includes to the lyrics to the various tracks with, um, lyrics. The piece that was playing at the end of "Kobal's Last Gleaming II" when Adama was shot had the last phrase of prophecy chanted in latin. And the "Kobal's Last Gleaming" theme that played when Roslin identified the planet (and a few other scenes) also had some latin. "All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again. So say we all."
However, I don't know if that was at the composer's discretion, or if TPTB wanted those phrases used at those times. I'd bet that they're thematically important, though.
You'll also want to pick up the miniseries DVD if you haven't already seen it, as it won't be included in the S1 box set.
edit: Spoiler: just watched BSG and SG-1. BSG was awesome, but if there was anything wrong with it, it was that it didnt feel like a season opener somehow. as for SG-1, i dunno...ive got a bad feeling as to where the show is gonna go. i found vala(?) to be annoying after a while, and i was hoping to get an insight into jack's decision decision to retire. hopefully the next weeks shows will be better
I thought they did the short 10 second openning credits with last season's premier as well but then the credits returned to normal with the next episode.
My guess is that they did it to squeeze(?) in a summary of last season without expanding the length of the episode.
The stubby credits were motivated purely on profit (and from what I can tell, it's testing the fanbase's loyalty a bit more than they expected)
See the news here
Edit: I just saw this little bit of news that really made me laugh:
Stargate Atlantis was also nominated in the Outstanding Main Title Theme Music category -- ironically just four days after news broke that The SCI FI Channel has chopped the opening sequence to 10 seconds for the new season (story). The Atlantis music was composed by Joel Goldsmith.

Spoiler: No Baltar will definately not be the one to get killed off. His character is way too important. IMO I think he's by far the best character. James Callis just does such an awesome job of playing that weirdo character transitioning from reality to lalaland so well. What I meant is that its going to be interesting to see what happens to him from now on.
Roslin is the obvious candidate but that would just be too easy and too fast. I think even if she does die it will play out at a much later time. My money is still on Helo. His role was too specific and has become obsolete IMO unless they add some new twist to him.
:)
yay!
That just really ruined it for me...
Spoiler: So tonight I am enjoying the episode, until Starbuck and what's-his-face get into a Hummer and drive off...
That just really ruined it for me...

Spoiler: Actually it wasn't the hummer that ruined it. They have tried to make the show have a believable feel to it and a futuristic looking vehicle would just look stupid like on every other show. A hummer at least looks like a proper military utility vehicle. What was stupid was that it ran on gasoline. When they started it up they specifically set the scene up so you could hear the engine start. I mean come on, if they have mastered faster than light travel I think they could come up with some other source of power. They should have changed the sound on the vehicle to not sound like a gas engine at least :D
I'm sorry, it was still a cheap thing to do in my mind. I would have much rather seen them share a cycle that was dressed up to look and sound different than 19th century Earth tech, or just keep walking...
Weren't they supposed to be looking for an abandoned Raptor anyway?
