Back on topic:
There seem to be several morons in the story:
First and foremost: the thug criminals who would threaten children in such a way.
Second: Grandma who allowed the children to play a game, albeit a fun one, that is for the more mature.
Third: the DA for only locking the thugs away for 4-5 years when they committed a crime with a gun.
Fourth: The kids for speaking in dumb’ed down English. My guess is they are not long off from a life of crime also.
Finally - Where were the parents? Maybe instead of working to pay for the TV, Playstation, and games – perhaps one of them should be home raising the kids.

What bugs me are the recurring hate filled remarks and jabs that do nothing to foster understanding.
“I pity America.” How is that anything but an obnoxious jab? Even if supposedly joking – it serves no purpose. It is not a joke anymore – it is not venting anymore – it is not humorous anymore. It opens no quality dialogue. It only fosters further hate. There is no way to respond to it or understand exactly what the reasoning behind it is.
If someone was to say: “I pity blacks” or “I pity homosexuals” implying that they are inferior or screwed up as a group. Would that be funny, productive, or fair. No – it would not be, and I hope it would not be tolerated on this board by our moderators.
The reason I pointed out the four fools in the article is I was trying to lead by example ~ it may have made me look like I was more upset than I was. Rather than making a short quip I wanted to single out specific thoughts on what was wrong with that picture. Thoughts that people could respond to – create a dialogue – one where people could [b]productively[/b] express themselves.
I just want the endless and useless jabs to end for a while.
I pity the entire 1st world for the continued and determined destruction of educational standards everywhere. The US doesn't have a monopoly on that, not by a long shot. It is a sad, world-wide trend that public education continues to strive to make everyone seem "equal" and capable of identical results academically. No longer is academic excellence (particularly excelling beyond others) good, rather passing and not appearing to stand out is becoming what children are taught is correct. The continuing trend by parents of avoiding responsibility for their children makes this trend even worse.

The American education system (I don't speak for the rest of the First World because I have no experience there) is in a sad state. The entire thing is pretty much a joke. Two things are taught in high school--how to learn useless facts by rote, and how to regurgitate these facts onto paper. More time is spent testing kids to see if they've learned than is spent [i]learning[/i]! Intellectual stimulation is out of the question.
Of my small group of immediate friends, there is not a single person who is less than brilliant; any one of us would excel in Harvard or MIT. One [i]is[/i] going to Harvard, and another has a good chance of making it into MIT, but the rest of us are pretty much screwed; Because of my abysmal GPA (essentially a 0.0-4.0 rating of how much bullshit you can take without losing your lunch), I'm applying to schools with average SAT (which is itself only slightly less flawed than the education system) scores one to three hundred points below my 1360.
That's not to say that all smart kids do terribly in school, of course; there are plenty of students who do well in school and will do well in college. But they're [i]smart[/i], not [i]intelligent[/i]. They've proven that they can learn, but they do not pursue intellectual stimulation. And that, I think, is a tragedy--our education system spends twelve to sixteen years educating people, and completely fails to inspire curiosity, originality, self-education.
