*Thinks what would happen if someone would come to brag me about he being spammer and how much he profits from it...*

Let's see... maybe first cutting finger nails with axe, then crushing fingers one bone at a time with 2 kg finetuning hammer... but hey, I don't need hammer for that, back of axe would work just fine...
• LOL yeah one time i left for the summer and came back to somthing in the range of like 10000 emails.. haha

Shaw wasnt too happy with me for that one

How much of that is real email and how much is spam?

I took a 2 week vacation from work earlier this year, and when I returned I had over over 3000 emails waiting. However, 2900+ of them turned out to be spam, with only about 150 real ones.

dunno what it is, but i sign up for loads of reandom crap but never seem to get spam at all:rolleyes:

That looks suspiciously like a screenshot of Outlook, Jack. :) Use Thunderbird and its built in spam filtering. You'll still have to download them but at least you won't have to sort them too.
• ArikArik Galen's Apprentice
If it's a work account and Outlook is standard, get IT to upgrade you to Outlook 2003 -- it has automatic junk email filtering, and it works fairly well.

I also agree with Biggles... if you are not forced to use outlook, don't.
• JackNJackN Lightwave Alien
heh...

Yes it is Outlook, no I don't use the preview pane, and I gave up on setting up filtering for it a while back. Just when I got things going well the spammers tried new tricks.

I'm actually working on changing my account name. At long last the alien account is dying...

*sniff* :(

All of it...

This was an accumulation of ~3.5 days of email. I average around 500 spam a day. There was a few days last year where I was receiving 1000-1100 a day...

• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Jack, get Thunderbird. Trust me, the filtering works. It catches all but a couple of the spam that gets sent to my @firstones.com address (quite a lot), and they don't take much to set up (literally check a box and you're ready to go). Add in Thunderbird's excellent importing facilities and there's really no excuse for still using Outlook at all.

I've read some comments on /. stating that Thunderbird was far behind Firefox in terms of end user acceptance when compared to its MS counterpart.

Firefox beats IE in most measurable tests, if not all (on all platforms available). But Thunderbird is supposed to be slower than outlook express at opening large mailboxes.

I may be wrong about this, just something I read...

P.S. Please don't mistake this as a MS endorsement. Even if it's a little slower, the benefits far outweigh any potential drawbacks to switching, imho.
• BekennBekenn Sinclair's Duck
I think the lack of adoption is more due to the fact that e-mail clients don't get the same level of visibility as web browsers. People feel that Outlook is good enough, and they don't have to download it.
• RhettRhett (Not even a monkey)
Use Gmail. Its awesome.

EDIT and if you need an invite, I have a few laying around.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I agree with Bekenn. Firefox is simply more visible. I have multiple large mail boxes in Thunderbird and it has no problems with them.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
I also have many large mailboxes, and no trouble. Hell, I switched *to* Thunderbird because of the problems I was having with Outlook's handling of my gigantic inbox.pst.

I second the gmail nomination. I've still got 9 invites left to share, should anyone need one.
• JackNJackN Lightwave Alien
I have 6 invites last time I looked...

:p
• Vertigo1Vertigo1 Official Fuzzy Dice of FirstOnes.com
I have two gmail accounts. ;) I gave out two to a couple servicemen stuck in the middle east. The other one I gave out to a dude on Hard Light.
• RhettRhett (Not even a monkey)
I honestly dont know why anyone would use anything besides gmail... its just great. No complaints about it at all.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Because I like to have my email stored on a harddrive I can see and physically move myself. :) Not to mention that I prefer offline clients than webmail.
• ArikArik Galen's Apprentice
about a month ago GMail added pop3/smtp functionality free of charge. So it's possible to use gmail and still store all your emails locally (assuming it stays free, of course).
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Yep, and then it's just like all the other half a dozen webmail accounts I have. :)
