And paramount did not make a mistake with destroying the trek sets, either. At the time, trek had nowhere near the following that it does now.

And use them for the interior of the Firstones HQ.

Where FOHQ is a shack in someone's back yard. It's funny that way

Except that the shack in someone's back yard is really just the top level of the elevator that provides access to a huge underground complex, 5 miles long.

I was talking about the Voyager sets. Those had been around in one form or another for twenty years!

Technically, licensing costs and Sierra's dislike of loss of possible revenue shouldn't be a problem if:
1) Any community based development remains freeware
2) Sierra instigate a proper development licence for anything they release, which allows them to take anything developed and then market it themselves, being sole owners of the copyright (basically the same licence as many a game engine allowing non-commercial usage).

It's this that's annoying me. Companies allow mod creation with clauses in place to allow said company to later sell the mod. Other companies make the engine, start working with it to create a game, game is canned, then all is lost. Why such extreme diferences?

Wasn't this the backup plan (at some point), if attempts to buy the IP from Sierra failed?

They have just shooted (or are shooting, or something) LOTR, so the sets probably aren't that completely packed up...

but those are not the babylon 5 sets. They are new sets that are designed for LotR

None of B5LR used the B5 sets. Nothing else will be made on the B5 sets. Trust me on this.

• Has anyone from Firstones tried scouring the devs' contracts to look for a misplaced peiod that would give them access to at least the work they did (if not the footage)?

I mean all I have seen are military plots and desprate petitions to get the game made...just wondering if this avenue has been tried.

This isn't too much of a tragedy though. I mean, the original B5 sets were nice, but they did...you know... look a little ...'cheap'.

The lighting wasn't that bad. Except for those odd lights in C&C whenever a shipped docked in the pilot.

Well, if worst came to worst (as it probably has in regard to the sets), then I'd just create a view nice virtual B5 sets and refilm those sequences with greenscreens. It wouldn't be quite the same, but it would be an option.

Yeah... Dirt!

• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Usually, yes. Dirt. They make them too clean. We are used to seeing everything with at least a little dirt on it, things like scratches and defects. Modellers often tend to make things too clean to look real. People like me have an excuse, we are still learning how to make things at all. But so many renderings by professional modellers miss this crucial element.

Yes. Things often look "too perfect" sometimes. It's too clean, too proper, too symetrical, or something. Dirt is one of those things that is often missed. Thankfully, there are many useful lightwave plugins that work well to dynamically place dirt, dust, and sediment in a scene. Usually in the cracks, crevices and such.
