What's happened to all the the ITF work done by the dev team?

Someone's got to ask this sooner or later. What's happened to all of the hard work done by the ITF development team? Is it possible it could be salvaged for community freeware development?
From what I've gathered, they had quite a few models polished off, and a stable engine. It would be a shame for them to be lost.

All the IP is off somewhere.

This actually has been asked numerous times.
Most likely, the IP is in a warehouse, getting moldy and such. That is, if it has not been destroyed already. I certainly hope it is not the case, but it might be.

Sadly this seems to be the case for nearly every canned game. Development reaches a decient level, game is canned, then all the work is then lost.
The sadest cases is those that are canned just prior to release.
There's something seriously wrong industries that do this kind of thing (Ok, so maybe every industry is wrong then *smiles a little*).
• man, I listen to the music of ITF and I see screen shots and I almost cry. Seriously, I really wanted to see the game made so bad

The official word is that Sierra has all of the IP. Some customer service person at Sierra's Bellevue website said recently that everything was thrown out in reply to someone from Firstones who asked. We have no way of knowing if that is true.

Even if they do still have the IP sitting in cardboard boxes gathering dust and mildew somewhere, I can’t imagine them giving it up so that it could become shareware or something. I mean, they could fool me I suppose, but I haven’t seen any glimmer of benevolence out of them (just the opposite, I’m afraid), or out of any of their new owners. Nor does it seem to me that they give a damn about the fans of ITF around the world – not that I can see anyway – I doubt we rate a blip on their long-range scanners.

Let's just kill the bastards and steal the game.

You see, i think what you really are afraid of is me. Me and my kind, the Brotherhood of Mutants. Oh, it's not so suprising really, mankind has always feared what it doesnt understand. Well, dont fear god senator, and certainly dont fear me... not anymore."

Some homeless person up in Seattle is probably using a backup CD with my game models on it as a nice coaster for their coffee cup with dentures in it...

Well at least it's making someone happy then

Of course there is just one possibility of the game being somewhere else and quite safe. But only Sierra could legally hold a copy of the code .

I think the most likely scenario is that it is somewhere on backup tapes where Sierra keeps that sort of thing, but that noone there really knows where it is or that it is there, with the only record being on a computer filing system somewhere.

• Seeing as Sierra is owned by the even bigger Havas, and probably has more money than your average bank, how out of pocket would it make them if they were to just finish the game?

We could launch a commando style raid on the warehouses and when we find it, we say that we developed it ourselves so then it would be legal...or something like that.

someone could hack into a Anti-terrorist mainframe (such as SAS, Navy Seals etc) and Flag Sierra as a known international terrorist group and input this info:

Mission title: Retreive plans to super weapon.

Target:Known terrorist orginasation Sierra have stolen topsecret plans to a super weapon codenamed: "Babylon 5 - Into the fire". Locate the plans and infultrate facility. Retreive the plans and deliver to orginisation: "Firstones"

Mission tasks:
Locate plans
infultrate and retreive
Destroy facility if possible
Deleiver to codename: Firstones
end mission

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Sierra still needs to pay for its crimes. C'mon, its time to wreak some havoc...

LMAO! Not at what's happened to your backup CD, of course - just the way you put it.

Well, we know at least it would be a big building. If all else fails we can lobby the Hague to have ole Dave indicted and brought up on crimes against humanity.

I'd be happy to do it all over again from scratch if someone were serious enough to start a new engine.

Problem is still the WB licensing costs, lack of footage from original characters, etc.

I still think a tradewars style B5 game that is severely modernized from the old DOS versions would be a viable software product also, aside from a Combat Sim which (in my opinion) must be done also.

Same problems are at issue with WB licensing, etc...

I think that the only real loss was the footage. Everything else can be redone, probably better. But the footage will never be seen again, and no more will be made because all the sets are packed up completely.

Couldn't they unpack the sets?

I doubt they made the mistake that paramount did and destroyed the original Star Trek sets, I know the regret doing that.

And many of those Voyager sets were redressed TNG sets, which were redressed from the first four movies.

On the other hand, I hope they didn't make the mistake Stanly Kubrik did and distroy the plans along with them.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
That wasn't really a mistake. He did that to show that he was truly done with the movie.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
The sets are packed away, not destroyed as far as I know. There was some reason they couldn't be got out to redo the game footage, but I can't remember what it was.
