Where excatly is the bridge on an omega?

FreejackFreejack Jake the Not-so-Wise

Also it seems the boards have slowed down just a biit I'm trying to get everyone thinking again.

Errr... if it wheren't then people would be flying about un all
• Yes, it's in the rotating section. Where exactly in it, noone really knows, but probably nearer the outer edge to get maximum affect from the rotation.
• Where ever it is, at least it isn't sitting out on the top of the ship with a big sign saying "Please, shoot me here" like Starfleet ships.

You mean like a whitestar or the Excaliber?

Or the Vorlon Dreadnaught, or the Narn Cruser, or the Hyperion Cruser, or the Centuri cruser (Emporor's Chambers)?
• Whitestars do have an unusual position for their bridge, compared to most minbari ships, but this is because the main body is filled by the weapon systems and jump engine, and because they are designed to be able to fly-by-sight (a real invovation in the B5 universe for large ships, apparently).
The Excaliber class? I ignore that. It's not human enough in design. Infact, it waaay to radical comapared to any race's ships. Yeah, I'm slightly bigotous on this issue, but it's got some big mistakes in it's design compared to the main series's vessels (such as why is the central transport tube pressurised?)

I imagine that the Omega classes' bridge is in the centre of a rotating arm, with a secondary command in the other.
• Vorlon Dreadnaught - we can oly guess about, as it could even be a fake one, knowing those devious vorlons.
Hyperion Cruser - little else room, considering the starfury bays (also called cobra?), weapon systems and jump engine. Also, with a ship that small, it doesn't really matter. And naval tradition, I guess.
Narn Cruser - Narn naval traditions, no room inside for it after jump engine and weapons, so thin it wouldn't add much protection anyway.
Centuri cruser - as for the rest.

• Well, we can guess quite accurately about the Hyperion class, as the episode where they first discover epsilon 3's secret shows it's commander in a rather ridgid looking chair (ie, isn't free to rotate). Thus it's safe to assume it's fixed looking out of a main window, thus it has to be on the exterior. Logically, this would point in the direction on travel.

The captain sits in the middle on a large swivel chair with the crew around him at their stations. As for the chair looking ridged it probably has a lock mechanism to stop him spinning around (due to Zero-G) when he doesn't want too.

Anyway the Bridge has no windows at all so theres no logical reason for it to be on the tower.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
Well, isn't it generally Military tradition to place commanding officers on the top of the ship, above the rest of the crew?
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Probably. But the Hyperion design is based more on a sub than a surface ship, so I would expect the bridge to be somewhere near the center below the tower.
As for an Omega, I would expect it to be in the rotating section where the gravity is closest to standard Earth gravity, which would probably be about halfway down the height of the rotating section.

When I'm watching the series in order (like now), I watch that after series 4. So I'm about 10 episodes away from that one. I'll get back to you then. But in the 'epsilon 3' episide I was talking about, the captain's chair was up against a wall.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
It is a raised portion of the room, right?
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Yes it is. Right in the centre of the bridge on a raised platform. All other stations are placed in alcoves at heights above and below the captains chair, sometimes at different angles, like on the "walls". For example, the commanders station (where Sheridan sat) is lower than the captains chair. The captains chair is fairly solid but free to rotate so that he can look at any person on the bridge easily. All other chairs appear to be fixed.

Just one question about the hyperion. Is that big yellow disk thing at the top of the central tower the scanner dish?

As far as I know it's some kind of radar. Probably far more advanced than our radar, but radar none the less.

You guys would laugh if you knew the history of that "Big Yellow Disk" on the Hyperion Model.

If anyone takes a look at the standard issue freighters in First and Second seasons, you'll recognize that Disk as the Bridge and living spaces for pilots and crew.

Why someone would put that on the hyperion model is beyond me...

(*cough* Foundation *cough*...)

heh heh
• Why the hell would you put it up there! One good beam weapon and the ship is dead!

Well, judgeing by the cutaway in the B5 RPG book, there is an emergency bridge inside the main hull. And since no less than four intercepters protected it, aside from the Minbari (who are the only race that can hit small things with beams), no race could really pose a threat too it. This is probibly the bridge in ITB.

By the way, in the H/M first contact, exactly what you discribe happened to the Hyperion.

The real location of the Omega bridge can be found HERE.

So does that mean that all Omegas are controlled from an old warehouse somewhere in America?

• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Yes, but they would only be able to control one Omega at a time.

Nah. They're very low-cost, now. They come in little packs of ten. Simply locate an open field (make sure it has good soil), and put the seeds down every 12 meters. Add water, and make sure the area gets good sun exposure. In a few weeks, you'll have Starship bridges ripe for the picking.
